In no particular order
1. Pirates of the Carribean
ead Man's Chest...not as good as the first one, but it was made to be a transition to the 3rd and final one so it's acceptable. All in all it was still a pretty damn good movie.2. Happy Feet...feel good animation movie of the year for me. Lots of music and dancing and the animation towards the end makes you wonder if it is real or really animated. it's that good. comes at you hard with an environmental message towards the end that kids won't get.
3. Cars....another amazing good time animation movie. really funny movie too, and the animation was pretty solid in this movie
4. The Fountain...most beautiful movie I've seen this year. Visually and storywise this movie was fantastic. and the fact that you really don't know what time the movie takes place, present or future, makes for great conversation afterwards which you don't get with many movies these days.
5. Casino Royale...Bond back in a big way. Lots of action and a great story, along with a good choice playing Bond made this a movie that was the best Bond movie I've seen in a long time.
6. x-men 3...not as good as the first 2 obviously, but still a pretty decent movie when it comes right down to it. We finally get to see the huge battles that take place in the actual comic books, not that 3 on 3 tag matches we've seen so far and the very, very end leaves it open for more sequels if that is what they are going for.
7. V for Vendetta...Hands down my favorite movie of the year. It had everything you could want from a movie and more. action, suspense, even an unorthodox love story. This movie was everything the last 2 matrix movies should have been and weren't.
8. silent hill....don't laugh. I thought this was a very good representation of the video game. it was very fucking creepy and pyramid head was fucking badass.
9. Nacho Libre...One of the funniest movies I'd seen in a while, at the time. It was just such a stupid movie you had to laugh, kinda like Napoleon Dynamite.
10. Little Miss Sunshine...just a cute, funny, independent film that got the attention it deserved

I havent seen the fountain but I heard lots of great things about it, nor have I seen borat. Nacho Libre was awful and I didnt like pirates, it was not as good as the first one but I still put it on the list, same with X3.
Little Miss Sunshine was beyond phenominal, should get a bunch of oscar nods, especially carrell and arkin for supporting actors.
V for Vendetta was probably the best film I saw, along with departed.
Superman was my favorite cause im gay for Superman.

i'm generally not picky when it comes to movies, takes a lot for me to dislike them (like dude wheres my car) - so i like most of them, but nacho libre was just really boring except for a couple of lines

edit - ebert has a review for block party from march 3, 2006 - so i guess it was released in theaters then.

The Departed- Great flick, love the killing, and the suspense
Superman Returns- I saw it, wasn't Superman II or anything, but decent
Hollywoodland- Well directed, interesting to see how Adrian Brody's character follows his leads and comes up with possible motive, even tho in the end, it ends up back to what we already know
Clerks 2- funny ass flick, the I'd Fuck Me scene is worth the whole movie
The Prestige- I really enjoyed the film, good to see Nolan add a bit of sci-fi to a period suspense drama about magicians and their secrets
Beerfest- another awesome Broken Lizard movie, I laughed my ass off at Jay Chansajkasrssasaseder's male whore character, waking up next to a deer saying "not again". Funny ass film.

and davinci code was beyond awful.
The break up was ok but I love vince vaughn in a gay way.
lucky number slevin was meh as well.
and the black dahlia was pure crap.

Failure to Launch - not that great but Matthew McConaughey was in it and I luv him.
Break Up - cute movie
Borat - some laughs but not what expected
The Holiday - dumb
The Devil Wears Prada - good and the book was even better
Poseidon - I liked it, the critics didn't
