My brother is starting college in September and we're buying a second computer for the house so we don't have to share the one we have anymore. Right now we have a HP that's about 3 years old, not a bad machine, but I'd like to get a Dell like the one at my desk at work. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what brand etc. to get? We basically only use the computer for Word Processing and fucking around on the internet.

If you are looking for a major manufacturer. You can't go wrong with Dell. IBM isn't bad either. I wouldn't even touch HP/Compaq(same company now), gateway, etc. Dell lately I have been hearing has had horrible service so if you are going to have a problem excpect some major bullshit. IBM I'm not so sure about.

If you check hotdealsclub or slickdeals often they have info on how to get deals(usually with dell ). Dell has rebates for 5-10%, free shipping, etc. all the time. So if you want to save up on money check those sites often and buy when a good one comes up.

I always love how they say every time how this is the greatest deal ever.

it doesn't matter which brand you buy as long as it meets the minimum system requirements for this you'll be just fine... :-D

We have Dells at work and the customer service we've dealt with has always been good, but then again when you're calling with an order of 30 computers, you're always going to get better help then when you're calling about one.

The first computer we had was a Sony Viao, and that was hell on earth...the motherboard literally melted and had to be replaced.
