So, what are the best programs to use for makign a VCD?

I understand all the files need to be mpeg-1 and your CD burning software needs to have a create VCD option.

So, what's the best program for burning the VCD?
What are the best programs for converting other vid clip file types to mpeg-1? Like .rm .mov .avi etc.?

Found one shareware for converting avi to mpeg, but it's slow as shit. Takes over an hour to convert a 2 minute clip.

Nero works well for burning mpgs to vcd.

First of all you are going to need a fast processor. It's going to be slow as ass on a slow processor.

My favorite progs for encoding is TMPGenc and Cinema Craft Encoder. CCE is not free, and is tougher to crack. But it is the fastest encoder. TMPGenc is not bad on the speed front though. Check http://www.vcdhelp.com for guides on everything you need. They'll have sections for converting .rm, .mov, everything.

Personally, I've had no problem creating VCDs using Roxio EZCD 5. But, I've heard complaints from others who've tried.

As for converting, any program that does it quickly is going to do it poorly. The way I like to think of it is that the software basically has to draw every frame, on at a time. That takes time, even for a 2 minute clip.

Creating VCDs is one of those things that you just start doing before you go to be and let the thing work all night.

I'm gonna check out AM's link tonight. I've heard about that site, but never actually been... should be worth it though, from what I hear.

Kid a good quality encoder will have options for how fast you want it to go. Obviously highest quality is the slowest but some people do not want that especially if they have really slow processors. I found that a huge thing that slows it down is not checking noise correction. Holy shit does that slow it down.

NERO Burning Rom and Prassi PrimoDVD work quite well.
