So, my company had an international meeting last week and took us all to dinner. We went to this uppity chinese restaurant and supposedly had 'the best seat in the house', which ended up being in the kitchen.

My question to you all is...

Is the best seat in the house actually the table in the kitchen? If so, why?

If not, where is the best seat?

To me, sitting in the kitchen is annoying because there are people constantly walking by, it's noisy, it smells and it's hot. But, apparently this was "the chef's table". In the end, I was not impressed and would've rather sat at a table in the corner away from the hustle and bustle of the kitchen. Maybe I lack culture, but this is my perspective.

Being the Speaker of the house is probably the best seat of the house.

I could make a joke about the black guy having to sit in the back of the restaurant, but that would be way too cliche.

Anyway, isn't the worst seat in a restaurant one right next to the kitchen door?

The best seat in the house is in my car next to the drive through window.

by the front window, with your back to the corner wall, so you can people watch outside, inside, and coming in the restaurant.

I was thinking this too - it made me think of that Halle Berry commercial where her and her friends are escorted through the dining room inot the kitchen :1:

As far as sitting at the Chef's table in the kitchen, I don't think it's viewed as the best seat in the house because of the atmosphere, but more as a sign of respect for sitting at his personal table. I find the best seats in restaurants are usually those that are set far back from the rest of the people, but not too far back that the waiter/waitress forgets about checking up on you.

The g00ks are just racist bastards. They didn't want the "regulars" to see a brother munching down on a bucket of ribs in front.

Keeping the brother man down.

Afrika was hanging out with black people?

- Kid Afrika - 09-23-2003

Nope. Japs, Aussies, Brits and a frog.
