I was looking for a cd and I came across 1 of my sampler cds that have piled up over the past few years. I turned this particular one over and, to my surprise, I noticed on the back cover that the lead off track to this 21 track compilation was Sigur Ros - Agaetis Byrjun from the Vidrar Vel Til Loftarasa release. Now knowing that we have a few pretentious coughcoughNOTMayNERDcoughcough cooler than hip, hipper than cool music aficiendos here that are down with Sigur Ros, I popped it in to see what all the hoopla was about. This particular track is 9+ minutes long. Now, I did some reading on them and found out they are from Iceland, so I know Finland boy, Sleeper, may want to check them out, but I also realized that this cd came out about 2 1/2-3 years ago. Someone mentioned to me that Sigur Ros inspired Radiohead's last album, so maybe that's how super cool hip kids became super duper hip... they must have read that somewhere and seeked out this band's cd. I went to find out what Radiohead cd it influenced and could not find out if it was Kid A or Amnesiac. But, in my readings, I found this in the review of Radiohead's Kid A With Kid A, Radiohead has made the ultimate 3 a.m. stoner-headphone album, one that marks an entirely logical progression from -- if not necessarily an improvement upon -- the techno-but-not-really O.K. Computer. So, my question is, if this is true, why isn't our very own Spitfire into Radiohead? Well, it just finished and after all that Sigur, I have a Mouthful of Cavities, so it can't be all that bad. :bouncer:
