i mean fuck it, i'm not ever returning the thing if theres no late fee. im keeping the fucking thing.

- Gooch - 01-10-2005

it's an attempt to charge the movie it to your card after a week.

Blockbuster drops late fees

No. 1 video rental chain to give 1-week grace period; Financier Icahn steps into buyout fray.
December 14, 2004: 6:29 PM EST

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Blockbuster Inc. announced Tuesday it is abolishing late fees on all its video tapes, DVDs and video games as of Jan. 1.

The world's largest video rental company will still have due dates for their rental products -- one week for games and two days or one week for movies, depending on whether it's a new release.

But customers will be given a one-week grace period after that to return the product. After that grace period ends, the chain will automatically sell them the product, less the rental fee. If the customers don't want to purchase the movie or game, they can return the product within 30 days for a credit, less a restocking fee.

i knew they were lying!!!!

- The Sleeper - 01-10-2005

they will lose 250-300 mil doing this, but it's a desperate attempt to get some business back from netflix converters

- Gooch - 01-10-2005

basically you have a one week grace, but what they really want is to make money off people slacking. its brilliant.

- Rooner - 01-10-2005

I have till tomorrow to return MX Unleashed of Im buying it.

- Buttmunch - 01-10-2005

You mean to say that they are going to make me buy The Lizzie McGuire movie?

- Keyser Soze - 01-10-2005

what a clever ruse!

- Danked - 01-10-2005

They may potentially lose business because of this move but it seems like the smart thing to do. The way I understand it, you pay the normal rental fee for the standard rental period, be it one day or three days, etc and you are still supposed to return it within that time period. After one week, if you haven't returned it, they charge you the price of the DVD as if it were a NEW purchase. You get ripped off right there. You pay full price for a DVD that is obviously pre-played. After that, you have 30 days or so to return it and they will refund the charge they placed on your credit card. Any more than 30 days and it is yours to keep.

minus the rental fee from the cost

- Goatweed - 01-10-2005

you still need to actually go there & return it.

On Demand rules, and it's cheaper.

- GonzoStyle - 01-10-2005

Basically they've turned the 2 day rental into a one week rental.

- Gooch - 01-10-2005

and then...you own the fucker

- Goatweed - 01-10-2005

hence, it is lame.

- Galt - 01-10-2005

or you could just got the Gonzo/Goatweed route and purchase every DVD that goes on the market.

exactly, tomorrow monk season 2 and unforgivable blackness are on my purchase list.

- Goatweed - 01-10-2005

Gonzo is much more guiltier of that than I am - you won't find Nat'l Lampoons Dorm Daze in my collection.
