How are fuel cells coming along? I hear they have made a lot of process. Referring back to another thread if we put more funding into NASA we could probably advance fuel cell research as well.

Also Saudi Arabia is no longer the world's largest oil producer. Russia is now. We could buy from Russia more. Even though Russian politics aren't the greatest(war on chechnya, etc) it's obviously way better than dealing with Wahhabists in Saudi Arabia.

The amount of shit these oil companies do is amazing. Shell for example wanted to get oil from Nigeria and the government was completely in their pocket. They did this to a)have the government stamp out any resistance from the people to the drilling and b)be able to get all the profits without giving anything back. There was a case of a man being executed for speaking out aganist Shell's practices.

It will be a long hard way because as much as Democrats pretend to be Environmentalists they are just as shitty as Republicans on energy policy.

i can't find it now, but i read the other day that oregon has passed a bill to charge an extra $15 to register hybrid cars. this is to make up for the tax money they won't be getting from the gas that these cars won't be using as much of. how friggin sad is that, they should be offering extra incentives not discouraging it. :disappointed:

The problem with fuel cells is that their fuel is hydrogen. Hydrogen is REALLY expensive to make, there's still no way to make it cheaply. Gas is still vastly cheaper...the only way you make hydrogen is using something called a rectifier which turns...you guessed it...gasoline into hydrogen and carbon dioxide

The problem with Russian oil is that it has too much sulfer in it. It requires more money to reform Russian oil than Mideast oil. I know it sounds dumb, but it's more work and dollars to use Russian fuel

What I really don't understand is why the car companies aren't using 9/11 as a good excuse to look into alternate fuel sources. I know they have done reasearch and even built some cars, but they should be trying extra hard now to find those alternate sources. Shove it up their ass! Don't buy oil from these fucks.

Not anymore. BBC did a big special on the new fuel cell vehicles. They are expected to roll off the production line at an affordable price around 2008. They are just trying to figure out how to get the cost down to something the average car buyer can afford.

Top speed of 80 miles an hour with an impressively long range (forgot the numbers.) It works and the fuel cell driven engine is no bigger than a conventional engine. A fully working version was shown at a European autoshow using a BMW fitted with the engine.

It is being jointly produced by the company that makes fuel cells for NASA, three British car makers, two major US car makers (GM and Ford) and two of the major oil companies.

They're all enthusiastic about being the first to introduce this new vehicle.

Why? You still have to plug in to charge up the fuel cells. So, you need more power plants. Still need oil for lubrication, tires, etc. Car makers still making and selling cars.
