Never the potato variety but, built one to fire tennis balls a long time ago. As I recall a very large Forest fire was very narrowly avoided. :-D

it's a toss up on that....
with fireworks you can aim them at stuff and or blow stuff up. with a spud gun you get to make it and enjoy the fruits of your labor by pressing the ignition switch(like the ones on a gas grill) and you hear the "BOOM!!!!!!" as the potato is propelled out of the barrel with great velocity and if you have good aim you will hit your mark!!! now that is fun!
