Merck Withdraws Vioxx Due to Data Showing Increased Risk of Heart Attack, Stroke; Stock Falls

Quote:TRENTON, N.J. (AP) -- Pharmaceutical giant Merck & Co. is pulling its blockbuster arthritis drug Vioxx from the market worldwide because new data from a clinical trial found an increased risk of heart attack and stroke. Its stock price plunged more than 27 percent as the company said the action will hurt its earnings.

I don't own any of this stock, but Merck and specifically the Vioxx matter is the "bread & butter" client of my Firm. So much for that Christmas bonus I was looking forward to :-(

I probably want to give my headhunter/pal a call, maybe have him keep an eye out for anything in case I need to jump ship.

That shits expensive (Vioxx) and doesn't work well on certain types of orthopedic problems. Not to forget the sudden side effects, such as internal bleeding and whatnot.

internal bleeding isn't too bad, so long as it heals eventually.
