Monitor Question - ...
#1
What's a good brand CRT monitor to buy these days? My 5+ year old Dell (Sony) 17" Trinitron is starting to show signs of age, plus it's getting those "corner shadows" that monitors tend to get when they're dying...do I want to get a 19" CRT since I mainly play games on this machine.

I went to Best Buy & Circuit City today just to window-shop and they had absolutely nothing.

Thoughts?

look here:

or check out your local computer shows, you can pick up a pretty good monitor for under $150 there... usually a refurb, but test it out there and make sure they ahve a good return policy.

any reason you're not going w/ LCD other than price?

I'm sticking with a CRT for gaming - LCD's just aren't as good as a CRT, as there are still ghosting issues in most - and chances are if there is an LCD that can match a CRT's refresh rate, it'll cost me an arm and a leg.

I thought of hitting up a PC show for a refurbed CRT, but was hoping to get a new one since the prices are really low nowadays.

I picked up a 21" trinitron for $200 2 years ago and it's still going strong. That would be my best advice for buying a monitor. You'll get a bigger monitor for less money and nothing beats a Trinitron tube.

Yeah, I definitely want a Trinitron - that's what I have now, but I can tell it's starting to go - I've had it for almost 6 years, so I can't complain and I'll probably keep it as a backup or for another PC until it officially dies.

I just wanna go 19", 21" might be pushing it space-wise, I'm not sure that will clear the hutch that I have now.

Bah, if you can fit a 19", you can fit a 21" with a little elbow grease and maybe a shoehorn.

I'll measure the space, if I can fit it and get it for the right price, sure - but I have a feeling it won't fit.

I need a new desk, one without a hutch, but one thing at a time.

I'm married, I don't need to impress them - or her - anymore.

I hate ordering anything over $100 over the Internet. Not that I've ever gotten ripped off, but I just like to go and see the thing in person before I plop down some cash.

same here, especially with a monitor since how it looks is ultimately whats of most importance.
