So today was pretty interesting for me...
First, there was some pretty bad flooding in the Las Vegas valley today about a 1 1/2 miles from my apartment. Luckily, I got home just before it started raining and the flood waters flow towards the east away from where I am.
Then as I'm watching the news about the flood I get a phone call from a friend back in NJ. It seems one of our friends partied a little too hard for a little too long. He was out last night drinking and drugging and his mother found him dead in his bed today.
So, it has me thinking...
Why am I so lucky that my apartment didn't get flooded?
Why am I so lucky that I haven't died from partying?
Why did my mom survive 9/11 without a scratch when she was across the street?
I often say that I don't have the kind of luck that you need to get put in these situations. I don't win when I gamble. I'll never win the lottery. And, I won't die in some major catastrophy(sp?).
I'm afraid (or happy) that I will lead a relatively uneventful life and die an uneventful death.
What type of person are you? Do you always win? Do you get caught in natural disasters? Do you have stories of barely making it out of a situation?
For me, I'm always the guy that left 20 minutes before something good or bad happened.

I kind of understand. I joined the navy and ended up way more than 2400 miles away. Then my little sister got leukemia. My youngest sister. It put a lot of things in perspective for me.
I woke up the next day, started to put my uniform on, looked at myself and thought "What the fuck am i doing here ?".

True, but it teaches a good lesson about taking chances. Better to have tried for something and failed than to have stayed in your comfort zone and never tried anything. Especially applicable when meeting members of the opposite sex. Better to have been shot down in blaze of glory by the gorgeous blonde than to have never spoken to her and regreted it.

I'd establish a comfort zone in your bathtub. It looks like the room Anne Frank used to hide in. Nobody would ever find you there.
