Explain this construction shit

I've never belonged to a union, but from what I understand, there's certain lines of work, where you will get work MUCH easier and more plentiful by joining the union. A lot of places only hire union workers because everyone greases everyone elses palms. So that part of it is just not going to change. Goes back as far as this country had business. We can thank the Mafia for that one.
