Because it's stupid. Because every religious building is opulent as they just drink in money and never have to pay a cent in taxes. Because it will take a large chunk of money away from them, and therefore their politcal clout. Because religion is stupid, and I hate that they are above the law and seemingly a country in their own right.
Plus, it's a great way to pay down debt, and lower taxes for people and companies.
