55% believe that the bible is the literal word of God.
That means that all of the people in the country who believe either
a) there is no god
b) there is a god, but not an active god
c) there is a God who created the planet, but the bible is just fables
d) all that stuff, but that there are many parts of the bible that are just foolish and impossible
e) that the basics of the bible are all 100% true, but the faliibility of man's memory changed the original story in the thousands of years between when it was first "said" and when it was written down (hundred plus for the New Testament) made the story not the literal word of God.
COMBINED are less than those who think that every single letter of the bible is idential to when the burning bush told Moses
