It's been no secret that the grunt has little or no love for the M-16 series of rifle. It does lack knock down power as reported by troops in 'Nam and almost every conflict since. Most would prefer to use the M-14 as it's more effective in dropping tangos at distance and up close and personal. In a Close Quarters Battle situation it's long barrel is a hindrance in getting it into action. Some of the Special Operations people are using a modified stock to reduce the overall length of the weapon (shorter weapons are needed in order to fit through submarine hatches and what not.)
