The International Boxing Federation (IBF) on Tuesday approved a request by heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis to fight ex-champ Mike Tyson in his next fight.
Lewis needed permission from the IBF to fight Tyson instead of Chris Byrd, the IBF's No. 1 contender. Byrd's bid to block a Lewis-Tyson fight was denied by Chief United States District Court Judge John Bissell.
As part of its ruling, the IBF said winner of the Lewis-Tyson fight must next face Byrd in a title defense no later than Dec. 8.
