OK, so this guy was on O&A yesterday, but I didn't get to actually hear any of his songs. His attitude though was great. HE has THE perfect attitude to be a rock star.
So while I was parusing Direct Connect today, I downloaded his album. THIS GUY SUCKS MAJOR MONKEY DICK!!!
I didn't hear ONE even halfway decent song on there. Usually if I download an album I'll listen to it, then just hang on to it in case I want to hear it again. BUt this one, I deleted because it's just terrible.
Now I never bash people for the music I like because different people are into different stuff, but I can certainly bash the artist.
I'm really sad that they're going to be playing his music a million times this summer. Thank god I don't listen to the radio anymore.

While your responses totally disappoint me, I understand. I could go on and on about the subject, but I will sum it up by saying that art is something that you get, or don't get. It's totally subjective like music, or books, or movies, or anything else. You either like it or don't. It just bothers me that you will bash something that you don't understand. With the arts in general, I take a different approach. I may not like something, but I will never bash it. The reason for it is that I've been on their side. I've painted, written music, written poetry/short stories, done some photography. When you put your soul into something that you do, when someone just says it sucks when in fact they just don't get it really upsets me. Think about how you would feel if you created something and everyone said it sucked.
My outlook on life may be a little different from yours though. I just ask that you respect an artist (in whichever medium) for being just that.
It depends on why you painted it blue. Remember.....art is subjective. Should that particular painting be hanging in a museum? Maybe not. But you can pass it by.
Next time though, while you're passing it by because you don't like it, think about the fact that the artist may have had some idea behind it that you just aren't aware of.

Should I take the same approach next time I see a movie I don't like? I think you are giving some of these artists more credit then they deserve. You put them on a higher pedestal than other people. Some artists just aren't talented whether it be painters, musicians, filmmakers. Sure they had an intention in making it, but that doesn't make them immune to criticism. I recognize their right to create, but they should also recognize my right to call their work a piece of shit.
Yes, you are right. You can call it shit.
I just have a different view of it. I would look at it and say I don't like it, and you call it shit. Doesn't make either of us right or wrong. Just different. And maybe that is what the artist intended. For you to NOT like it.
I don't put them on a higher pedestal. Not at all. Do I respect them for having the balls to get their message out there? Yup, sure do. Doesn't mean it's good.
hell, when the Ramones first came out, people hated their music. Frankly it sucked. But the reason they became so popular is because they made it a point to be different, and to speak to the people that didn't have a place. That's where they drew their popularity from and became the innovators they are. Were they the best musician/songwriteres? hell no, but that's not what it's all about. I've known PLENTY of talented musician/songwriters that have never gotten anywhere because they didn't show any innovation.
Being good at something doesn't always mean you're going to appeal to people, and vice versa. You may suck at something, but it may catch someone's eye, and they may love what you do.

Honestly, that is one of the few pieces of art that I remember distinctly from my trip to the Met. You are correct, it is brilliant.
What arpi said is 100% correct. Art should provoke some kind of emotion. That's exactly what that grey canvas did.
Maybe next time you won't break my heart by tossing me aside...<font color=#EEEEEE>
