I have an in-ground and a heater, but I don't think you have to have a heater. Last summer I left the damn thing on and there went the whole tank of gas. yikes. The pool was like a giant hot tub, tho.
I'm in Annadale/Hugenot so I'm not far from the mall but I'm also upwind - it works out very well.
I'm no fan of SI, if I had my way we'd be much farther south right now, but the situation is what it is, so I make the best out of it that I can.

oh, and I'm not rich nor do I mow my own liawn - the mexicans do that for me for cheap, all I do is water it.
