Linux is moving farther along than you can think. A lot of user-friendly tools have been implemented as well. For example Suse has something called Yast. You start it up and choose what programs you want(and Suse will give you a very nice selection) to download or update. Linux is making a lot of headway which is why Microsoft is rolling out .NET to keep a control of its marketplace.
