When you are single - What do you do to pass the time?

I've been single for a while now, but after my last long term serious relationship ended a little less than a year ago, I caught up with friends who I hadn't seen on a regular basis, did better in school, had a few meaningless flings, and just basically took care of me....oh and of course when it first ended...drank like an alcoholic.
