He didn't.

If I had never read the books, I probably would love the LOTR movies. As it is, I prefer Tolkien's LOTR that he spent 50 years perfecting over Peter Jackson's big budget interpretation for the masses. Gollum was cool, good use of CGI...the fact that he turned Faromir completely around from what he is supposed to be is inexcuseable. The almost total abandonment of the mythology that made the books so great was really depressing.

But yeah, nice special effects... :crackhead:
