The elven general was definitely the same actor as the guy who captures them in Lothlorien (POSSIBLY his identical twin). I think if it wasn't meant to be the same character, PJ would've plunked down a few extra bucks and gotten another actor to play him.

And Saruman just got the piss knocked out of him. So he got up, wiped the blood from his eyes, and went back to plotting the downfall of the horsey people.
