NY, especially when you are pissed off...going out of your way to be there, and during a fuckin sweltering day...sucks ass. But, it's also based on where you are at in the city. Should I make my assumption of life in NJ by visiting the industrial cesspool that is Linden. I think not.

gooch, I was on madison ave at 32nd st., not in the middle of harlem.
I know there are nice sections of NY, but the dirty smelly sections are far more common.

Actually, It was a pretty good description of the city........If this was 1975.
Look around, man. The city Is fucking beautiful. You just have to know what to look at.

What in the fuck are you talking about? have to know what to look at? So, if you selectively look at only the half-dressed women, then you're right, NY is kind of cool. Just don't look at the ground, or the homeless people, or breathe in through your nose, or try to park.

actually, that area is kind of nice. what you talkin bout, Willis?!?!?
i work on 8th and 34th, and that area is shitty cuz the scum from the cleaned out 42nd street have merely spread out along 8th Ave.
i hate hangin in the city during the summer b/c the garbage gets rank, and that concrete soaked heat just emenates from the street. And the subway is horrendous...it's actually hotter underground. I've always preferred the fall/spring time for hitler...errr, for NYC. since i live in a quiet area in Queens, and taking the LIRR, the city becomes less a pain in the arse.
Places like Gramercy Park, Tibeca, Union Square, Murray Hill (just a bit more East from where you were) are much nicer...but, it depends on your taste for bustle, crowds, and the urban landscape.

The city rules. you just have to know where to go.
i've lived in the burbs all my life, i really want to move into NYC at some point.
after a year in maryland, i've decided that there should be some rule somewhere that everyone has to spend at least some time in new york city. build some fucking character.

I grew up in the suburbs and go to college in the city and I like living in the city about 100000000000X better than the shitty suburbs. Manhattan has everythign you could ask for within 2 blocks away from you. There is always something to do and you don't have to drive around in an air pollutant to get anywhere. I fuckin love the place.

Hmmm...I could rent a 6 or 7 room apartment in a two family house in Queens or 150 sq. ft. one room loft in a 5 floor walk-up in Manhattan for the same price...think I'll stick with the 45 minute train ride into the city.
Manhatan kicks ass. You can find ANYTHING if you know where to look.
Just stay away from the coops, condos, and tenament buildings in the summer cause the 6 foot high pile of garbage bags wreak. And the alleys where the drunks go to piss.

and this differs from Jersey because....?
You tell me what you need, and I'll tell you where to find it in Jersey. You may have to drive to it, but that's half the fun.

I can drive into the city in about 45min off peak. and about an hour and 15min at rush hour. I get to breath fresh air, no matter the season. And, I'm 30min from the shore, less than 30min from AC. I have a reserved parking space, and I never have to wait for the train, bus, or taxi.

i work in a park all summer and other than the lovely view of the westside highway, it's quite beautiful.
although i'll admit, i was down on canal street this afternoon and it was pretty god awful and the subway ride to and from work is almost unbearable, but still, i like it...

Last time I checked, AC was atleast an hour from Edison, unles of course you have moved south of Forked River, and if you have, there is no way in fuck, you are getting to the city off peak in 45 minutes.
