Mistaken Identity

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (Reuters) -- The grandmother of a 15-year-old accident victim shocked the funeral for her grandson's friend when she recognized her own grandson in the open casket, authorities said Tuesday.

Stephanie Hylemon noticed it was Jeremy Hylemon, and not 16-year-old John Grubs Jr., who died in the July 31 car accident, Meade County Sheriff's Deputy William Sego said.

The body was due to be cremated after Saturday's service.

Grubs' family, who had misidentified the boy's body, rushed to a local hospital where Grubs, not Hylemon, lay unconscious in critical condition from injuries suffered in the crash.

Dental records were subsequently used to confirm the identity of the dead youth, a spokesman for the Jefferson County coroner's office said.

Eh... Can't get the link to load, but how is it that the one family whose son was actually in the hospital didn't notice which one was there in the average two-three days it takes to get to the funeral?
