He keeps twice as much as he gives out to his friends in total, or twice as much as each individual?

If it's the former, then his friends each get 1.706 grams, and he keeps 2/3 oz for himself. If it's the latter, they get 3.84 grams each, keeping only 1/4 oz for himself, making him a very generous stoner. The way you worded it wasn't very clear...
