Mosquito bites - Itchy itchy itchy
#1
Anybody have any suggestions to get rid of the itch of mosquito bites? I got chewed up this weekend. I hope I don't end up with West Nile virus.

Serious replies only...thanks.

scratching them is a very underrated treatment for bites

I've been scratching them all day, but I can't get them to bleed (which usually stops the itch). They're just getting more red and swollen. I even made an "X" in them with my fingernail (usually works) and that didn't work either.

I'm going to lose my mind.

If you want them to bleed, take a sewing needle to a flame for twenty seconds and then puncture a hole at the center of the bite.

i always heard having a dog lick it helps because of stuff they have in the saliva, but i never really knew if it was true.
you have a dog, make him/her lick it

You can try one of the three following remedies, but only one will work.

Pour club soda on the bite(s)

Rub aspirin on the bite(s)

Rub Pine Sol on the bite(s)

get your finger wet and rub it on soap. rub the soap into the bite. it willl dry it up.
I love him. He's like those happy old people who become known for sitting by the side of a busy street and waving to passing cars. People drive by regularly and beep just to see him and get him to wave to them.

That's just like our Arpi... except he doesn't wave or anything. He just says mean things to you.

I hear you can have someone pee on them to get the sting out.

Not that anyone cares, but I thought I'd give an update. As of yesterday, I still had 2 bites that were not raised -- rather, they were sunken, much like a poc mark from chicken pox. I decided since I was home anyway, I'd call the doctor. Long story short, they're spider bites and apparently I'm lucky I didn't have more "tissue loss". Now I'm on antibiotics for 10 days, as well as having an antibiotic skin cream I have to use on the bites.

The doctor said someone was in not long ago and they had to surgically remove the tissue around the bite. The pharmacist said that a woman was in a couple weeks ago who had been bitten by a spider in bananas at the supermarket and had a lot of tissue loss on her hand.

Yucky stuff.
