When you've had that many people's numbers retired, it should only be hall-of-famers who spent the vast majority of their careers with the team (only Jeter and Rivera)

But I'm not even a Yankee fan. I just don't see why he shouldn't have his number retired after spending 15 years (and counting) with the Yankees, a career batting average over .300, OPS+ of 130, and the only player to play on their 10 consecutive playoff (including 4 World Series champion) teams. Seems like a no-brainer to me...
