You said it's a kiddish game. So what if it's targeted to a child market or not it's fun to play. It's the pinnacle of the platformer genre. That's what I'm trying to say.
Oh btw MGS2 didn't suck as much as FF9 storyline-wise but it did suck in its own regard. MGS isn't meant to be cheesy and that's all it was.

Go for MGS2,... its cool, and short enough that you'll get to GTA 3 before the next one comes out.

Of the games listed, the ones I've played are:
Batman: Vengence (Best batman game ever, but that's not saying much. Easiest game I ever played.)
Metal Gear Solid 2 (Very good game. More options and stuff thanthe first. I'm about half way through it.)
Devil May Cry (Has all the great puzzle elements of RE with great fighting. Pretty good story too.)
RE: Code Veronica (The real sequel to RE2. I'm about half way through that one too. Story line not as engagin as RE1&2, but still good.)
Haven't played GTA or Tony Hawk yet. (My PS2 is 3500 miles away right now.)
Of the list, go with MGS2 or DMC. If you want to sneak around and kill people from behind, go with MGS2. If you want to run into battle with guns blazing and swinging a big sword, go with DMC.
