I don't know anything about newsgroup etiquette.. or even really how to use a newsgroup... but could someone please tell me.. what does "top posting" mean?
A friend of mine asked me what it meant and I haven't got the foggiest idea.

Newsgroups are my 2nd home but I’ve never heard of that term. Perhaps it’s just a device/gimmick to bump an interesting article to the top of the page.

I think it's a word they throw out to confuse everybody. Like "yupo".

I love him. He's like those happy old people who become known for sitting by the side of a busy street and waving to passing cars. People drive by regularly and beep just to see him and get him to wave to them.

Or maybe "top posting" just means only posting in the topics that are at the top of the group. Kind of post-worish type insult

Danked newsgroups before were a way to discuss various topics much like a message board. Now they have evolved into a one-stop shop to download porn, warez, music, and porn.

Thanks guys. I asked the person what context the term was used in and he said it was meant as a slam against a member of the newsgroup. Maybe it means creating a new post regarding an idea rather than just answering a thread. I really have no idea. But thanks for helping a gal out ;-)
