I'm using XMAS and birthday money (which is two weeks after christmas) to get a new computer. Due to money constraints, I will either be getting: eMachines 4060 or eMachines 2085
which one do you think i should get? I was leaning toward the 4060 because it has a pentium 4 and faster bus speed. the 2085 has a faster cd-rw and bigger hard drive. other than that, they are very similar.

I'm not too thrilled with e-machines.
They tend to have cheap parts, like power supplies, etc.
Maybe they've improved, but I'd
do a google/groups search and see what people say

I'd rather buy an old Gateway than an eMachine - those PC's are teh suck.
If you really wanna do yourself a favor, wait longer, save up some more $$ and get either a Dell or an Alienware - you'll pay a bit more for either over an eMachine, but you'd be doing yourself a huge favor by not dealing with eMachines at all.

well, moneybags mcgee, my only 2 forms of income are:
1) $10 a week from the parental units, and
2) buying stuff on ebay and then overcharging relatives for them
so...im gonna have to save up for quite a while, then.

I thought you might have some kind of a job - you're never too young to work, even part time.
eMachines blow - those are QVC specials, and like the saying goes - you'll get what you pay for. If you do get one, good luck :thumbs-up:

Weeds right, emachines suck the ass! Why not just sell drugs to kids?

you can have someone build you a garage box machine for far less and have a customized, more powerful machine.

Garage boxes are good for people that either know how to troubleshoot their own techie problems, or they know someone that'll do it for them at any time. For the rest, an extended warranty (free part replacement, at-home service, etc.) is a must. Dollar for dollar it is the better option, though.
