Black boxes for cable - What the f' happened?

Goat, my father originally tried the same box that you had because I remember talking to you about it back than. It was not compatible with my father's cable. My father called the guy he tried helping, but it remained mostly static and returned it for a refund.

they make other boxes now, you just have to make sure it will replace the one you're supposed to be using. For example, TWC gives us a Scientific Atlanta box, 8610X - there is an 8610 also, but the X makes the two very different (I forget why, something to do with the PPV ordering or something). Anyway, I got the box initially to replace the 8610 and it only partially worked - I called them up, thy said I needed the one I have now, and it works like a charm.

Also, if you plan on buying one from someone on E-Bay, it gets cheaper, but make sure you get someone with a really high seller rating, and check the ratings for "excellent communication", because most times these are guys selling out of their basement or whatever, so you wanna deal with someone who will actually reply to any inquiry you make regarding it - especially if you can ask them about it before you bid on/buy it.

My plan is to keep the box when I move, get a dish and do it legit - this way I can enjoy digital goodness on my TV and still catch the WWE/PPV movie whenever I want. If DirecTV gets too costly, I might want to go the emulation route.

we have 4, they changed one a few months ago (made it DTV exclusive) and I got the Lifetime Movie channel in its place. Then out of the remaining three, one doesnt descramble properly (it goes in and out - its the only channel that does it for some reason). So long as the channel that they show the wrestling PPV's works, I'm happy :thumbs-up:

at my college my old black box that didn't work on staten island anymore worked in newark. it was sweet, but now they have it setup at school where we don't need a cable box to get cable channels, so its useless this year

lz where did you get the stuff to program the dtv cards? i have a football card that was shot but i heard you can get something called a condom for it where it still lets it work and you program it that way

also know someone who tried sending their card to someone and had it mailed back to them and a couple days later a lawyer sent him a letter stating a lawsuit against him because they were able to access the guys records and any addresses he had.

precisely.....that's one of the other reasons i got out of that. what you have to remember is not to pay by check or credit card go with a money order and never ever give your name or address.

how do they get the stuff to you then? Do they ship to a P.O. Box or Mailboxes Etc.? Most places don't. when i bought my box, I did it over the phone, paid by credit card. I know they've been trying to crack down on it, but so long as you order from way out of state, you should'nt have a problem.

Satellite stuff might be different though, I think they're more active in trying to nab people than cable companies - plus with Digital Cable being next to impossible to get a box for, I think eventually all cable systems are gonna go all digital and screw us analog subscribers right in the ass.

The Satelite companies are constantly trying to fuck with it. You need to have a certain technical knowledge to reprogram the cards every time they attack them or try to scramble them. Luckily if you frequent the right message boards and sites cough dssunderground cough then you would be always 3 steps ahead.,
