Lap Top speakers - ...they won't work

I don't know what is wrong with them. All of a sudden, they don't work. I've tried everything.
Is there some sort of test I can run? This is really annoying and I want them to work...and yes, I checked to see if they were muted. If the movie sucks, we can like make out if you like

I love him. He's like those happy old people who become known for sitting by the side of a busy street and waving to passing cars. People drive by regularly and beep just to see him and get him to wave to them.
