Anyone know interesting things about him?
Real life stuff? Anything about his ideas?
I have a basic knowledge of some of it ... id, ego, superego, oral fixation, stages of life/development ... but I always wanted to learn more.
Maybe someone knows a good book to start with?

Interpretation of dreams is an excellent read but if you know little about him it may be too advanced to start off with. I prefer the writings of Jung myself, frued is more of a morbid curiosity.
I could type out a bunch of shit but it'd be easier for you to go to the following sites which I have used personally in the past when researching Freud.
These sites offer an in depth look at frueds life, work and ideas and are very good reads.

As far as a book better suited before you try reading 'dreams' by freud is reading a book by Alexander Welsh, it's called "Freud's Wishful Dream Book". In essence it is a book dedicated to a book, the book is dedicated to "interpretation of dreams"

The only thing I got from him was his interpretation of "sex". He claimed that "sex" was anything that made you feel good. If picking your nose makes you feel good, it would be considered "sex" to you. Or hitting old women while they are sleeping could be "sex" to you if you enjoy it.
To me, eating pizza while watching football would be a type of "sex" for me.
Thank you. This has been a public service annoucement brought to you by Ronin, your favorite neighborhood mercenary.

i suck cock.......i mean, this thread sucks!
I love him. He's like those happy old people who become known for sitting by the side of a busy street and waving to passing cars. People drive by regularly and beep just to see him and get him to wave to them.
That's just like our Arpi... except he doesn't wave or anything. He just says mean things to you.

The only thing I remember was my psych teacher explaining that Frued beleived women were empty vessels, like a vase, and only felt complete while pregnant, preferably with a male child. All about the penis envy.

Civilization and its discontents is a book by freud, it's actually one of his best if not the best in my opinion.
Quote:a person becomes neurotic because he cannot tolerate the amount of frustration which society imposes on him in the service of its cultural ideals, and it was inferred from this that the abolition or reduction of those demands would result in a return to possibilities of happiness.
