The third mummy movie, it was alright.

You are the first person I've ever seen who has actually watched that. I liked the first one, and number two wasn't awful, but there's little desire to watch the third.

Whats the last movie you watched - alex - 03-16-2009

I liked the third one too.

if you liked the other ones, this one will not disappoint.

Watchmen. IMO too long, too much dialogue, dialogue was bad, etc etc but I expected all that from hearing people talk about it and the fact that the only comic-esque movie I've ever enjoyed was The Dark Knight. It wasn't a bad movie, just didn't do it for me, there was so much discussion of war and conflict but nothing substantial happened and it reminded me of the latest The Day the Earth Stood Still movie where the plot went like this:

Character capable of saving the world: Make me believe the world is worth saving
Emotionally strained female character: ...
Character capable of saving the world: OK, I'm convinced (and proceeds to save the world)

It's a shame for people to accept Batman they have to rape the franchise take away everything from it that made it Batman. Eff the Dark Knight and Eff the billion dollars it made off casual viewer fags.

Watchmen is the most well adapted from it's original medium to screen. Ever. It was nearly scene by scene out of the comic, and the only thing that changed was the ending, which actually made more sense in the film.

Paragraph #1: Eff the Batman series for changing things!

Paragraph #2: Praise Watchmen for only making changes I like!!

Well there's a difference between shitty on an entire franchise and changing the ending to its film adaptation, son. Wink

TDK = A mobster/spy movie where i guy just happens to look kinda like Batman
Watchmen = everything is the same except the ending.

yeah... well you see here's the thing. you are comparing 2 different beasts, and this is the most annoying thing I get when I see and hear fanboys talk. you claim they rape batman and watchmen is well adapted, but you can't/shouldn't compare a movie to it's written counterpart. The same thing happened with the whiners complaining about LOTR,you hear them saying they cut out too much, why didn't they have the battle at the shire, blah blah blah...

Just like LOTR the black knight was it's own movie based off of characters and a story that was written. The problem is that if you translate the written medium as closely as possible the viewer will end up losing out on a lot of things unless they religiously followed the written version before they watched the movie. Thing is the general person doesn't do that, and when that happens they may as well just not make a movie because of the fact that those "casual viewer fags" won't get half of it and in order for them to actually get it they would have to make the movie longer, and possibly more drawn out thus people losing interest.

Bottom line is the movie industry is there to make money, if you want to make a complete video reenactment you will more than likely lose money. If you are such a fan of the original story then just stick with the book because in order for things to be transfered to the medium of video it will have to be changed, that is just the nature of the beast. If you actually pay attention to dark knight as a movie goer and not a nerdy fanboy you will actually enjoy the movie for being a movie.

I saw Watchmen over the weekend and even though I know nothing about the comic or characters, I rather enjoyed it. Yes, it was a little long, but by the end of the movie, I was pretty much caught up. I liked the backstory on the characters.

Whats the last movie you watched - alex - 03-17-2009

Firstly Novels != Comics. So your LOTR analogy falls flat there.

The Dark Knight is to Batman as Japanese Spider-Man is to Spider-Man

Yeah it had the basic elements of Batman (guy has a batsuit and fights crime) but it was a clusterEff of fail. Joker was the only entertaining part of the film.

The difference is that this is, what, the 8th batman movie. Everything from the comics has already been done. They had to do something new, but still follow the whole batman concept. Besides, the comics had a pretty good mobster feel to them anyway.

**I have not seen, nor read the Watchmen comics***
With the watchmen movie, it had to be easy, and they must not have taken any creative liberties. How boring must it be to watch the exact same thing that you just read? Even if a movie comes out after a book, I hope that they do a few things different.

Whats the last movie you watched - alex - 03-17-2009

There's plenty of shit in the comics they never have done on film.

How was it to see a comic I've read at least twice on the big screen in full colour and motion? Awesome. It was very awesome. The actors even looked cloned from the comic using super awesome magic-science.

Since you didn't read the comic, I'm sure all this falls flat to you because you have no Idea what I'm talking about.

This is true. I tend to read big people books, without pictures.

your serious here??

a book is a book. written word is still written nonetheless. The addition of pictures and putting speech bubbles instead of plain text on the page still is the written word. Batman, spiderman, Ghost rider, Punisher, and any other comics are as translatable as LOTR. you can't completely recreate the characters exactly, like with LOTR merry and pippin were kind of dumber than in the book, Frodo and Sam had more of a brokeback mountain relationship thing going on, and so on. But the movies were still kick ass.

So yes they are comparable, yes batman wasn't just like the comic batman, but the movies were really good. Spiderman shot web out of his wrists instead of using cartridges. When you convert to a live action movie it changes the makeup of what made the comic/novel what it was. If you want something to be exact you have a better chance of them doing so with a cartoon than a movie.

XFD @ Thinkin Watchmen isn't for "big people"

It won the Effing Hugo award.

Seriously, jokes and fanaticism aside...you should read it.

Also, LOTR is different because It has no visual frame of reference like in comics. And the films were alright, needed to be condensed IMO.

Also, Spider-Man has been using organic webbing for a while now in the comics.

Spider-Man only used cartridges in the early comics because it was still under the comics code which prohibited the display of bodily fluids.

LOTR had an artist that worked with tolken to create the some frames but yes it was not fully graphic.

Organic webbing??? I know with the newer spiderman comics there is a universe of spiderman that he actually does shoot from his wrist naturally but they mixed it with the story of the old ones in a way, along with that there are plenty of character traits that didn't really match the characters, not to mention that MJ was not his first girl, I can go on and on about the inconsistencies of the movie because they changed things a hell of a lot for that movie. but the movie was still awesome.

Whats the last movie you watched - alex - 03-17-2009

In Ultimate Spider-Man he uses web shooters. But in things like House of M and Civil War storylines and probably even way way before that they started using organic webbing more.

The movies were decent, not my favourites of the Marvel films, but they weren't BAD, especially the fights in Spidey 3.

I thought Iron Man was pretty good. As well as its Hulk companion.
I think it's really awesome how their tying all this shit together.

Also X-2 was really good but i'm biased because it has Nightcrawler.

I'm a big fan of Tom Clancy novels. The most recent movie made from one of them, The Sum of All Fears makes some pretty major changes from the actual book.

Would the casual fan know this? No. Do I think they're "fags" for being a casual fan? Nope.

i'm currently watching Transporter 3 and it's a huge turd.

transporter 1 was good, and I turned Transporter 2 off after he flipped his car over on a ramp so a crane would scrape a bomb off his car. Effin shit.

Zach and Miri make a porno

pretty good, not kevin smith's best but it is funny.

Whats the last movie you watched - hotzester - 03-18-2009

I also watched Zach and Miri Make a Porno the other night. I thought it was great. Kevin Smith is a brilliant scribe, and his humor was evident throughout.

IMO, it will be tough for him to top Clerks, but this was the closest I've seen him come yet.

It got me thinking - imagine if Judd Apatow and Kevin Smith collaborated????

I'm a Kevin Smith fan, I saw J&SBSB 5 times in the theatre, not to mention the hundreds of times I've seen his other films on DVD. However Z&M just feel flat with me, cating Jason Mewes as anyone other than Jay makes for something utterly unwatchable, and the sappy stupid love story about as enjoyable as watching beige paint dry. Justin Long was pretty funny though

That is kind of my point there. I just don't think it completely fell flat. It had a lot of good moments, like the shit scene, or the many kevin smith type of jokes littered through the movie. I could however have gone my life without seeing a nude mews though. The love story was kind of okay but not quite good. as far as coming close to clerks the only thing I have seen him do that has done that was clerks 2. Dogma or mallrats could come to a close second after that though.

Whats the last movie you watched - hotzester - 03-18-2009

Yeah it was weird seeing Jason Mewes as something other than Jay, I'll give you that. It was also weird seeing Jeff Anderson as something other than Randall, but not nearly as strange.

I've always liked Justin Long (way back to his days on "Ed") and I'll also watch anything with Seth Rogen. I don't mind a sappy love story as long as it has enough humor to keep me laughing.

Not really the last movie I saw, but movie related. Today I noticed that we're getting four Netflix movies at once, even though we're signed up for the three at a time plan. Right at the top of my que was a "Click here to see why you're getting four movies at once" link. I clicked it, and all it said was, "You are now getting a fourth movie at once!"

...Real informative.

I liked the Dark Knight BECAUSE it was the least comic-like movie, Watchmen had some interesting parts but even if I had been into comics, reading that one would have still left me yawning. I just don't like them so for me to say Watchmen wasn't a bad movie is saying something.

I just like to be entertained and affected when I see a movie. I was unaware I was supposed to be a serious/purposeful viewer of all movies, I apologize for being a "casual viewer" doktor- apologize but not effing sorry.
