Hm. Not really. Only if you worship Google.

I've heard the best new OS is Opera's. You can file share and what-not in the browser...

Fuck google.

They are trying way too damn hard to take down Microsoft. It's not in the best interest of the user and it is taking their focus away from the core product.

Re: NERD ALERT: Google chrome OS = nerdgasm - Philly Mike - 07-08-2009

Well first off I haven't really had any issues with any other google products (in all fairness I will mention I have never used docs) and they actually run better than the microsoft counterpart. Chrome browser is way better than IE (doesn't take much effort for that though), hell android is 100 x better than windows mobile, google maps better than what you get with windows live.

As far as that pc world article, well that is all pure speculation considering no real details have been given out except for the fact that it will be linux based. Now I am not saying it will beat out windows, especially with the older people who learned on windows like my grandparents, the same people that complained vista was too different. I would prefer to use such an os though compared to using windows because well out of what I have used with linux I liked better than windows. I wasn't trying to make a comparison anyway, I was just stating that the os is coming out.

Have you tried this yet mike? it is the new search engine from Microsoft and most reviews I have read rate it as good or better than google.

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.bing.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.bing.com/</a><!-- m -->

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.pcworld.com/article/165749/bing_vs_google_vs_yahoo_feature_smackdown.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.pcworld.com/article/165749/b ... kdown.html</a><!-- m -->

It is especially great for searching videos.

Re: NERD ALERT: Google chrome OS = nerdgasm - 0rz0ski - 07-09-2009

Yeah, Bing's video search is fricking sweet. Hover over the video result and it will play a couple seconds of it.

After reading the article, I can say that I didn't realize how sweet Bing was and some of those extra features. Good article Z. :thumbup:

Re: NERD ALERT: Google chrome OS = nerdgasm - Philly Mike - 07-09-2009

I've tried bing. Nothing wrong with it. I still prefer google for searching mostly because of the plain simple presentation, that plus google mobile works nice and smooth compared to bing on my phone. Bing isn't too bad with it though, nothing like yahoo where you have about a million things going on in one page. I hate yahoo.

Note to Howie: Bing can be used to search for porn and view small samples without actually going to the site (yes even animal porn just for you) Wink It also works better for images than Google IMHO.

Eh, regardless of it all, bottom line is that it comes down to preference. I will give the OS a try, I may not like it, but as of yet google has yet to let me down. I use the browser on mmy pc, I use reader for my podcast, and I have android on my phone. I wouldn't put it past them to. Drop the ball, it is an +| and they may be biting off more than they can chew, we will just have to wait and see considering this isn't even downloadable yet.

So long as you don't mind linux then it should work great, from what I have read so far it doesn't work all that well for applications and is pretty much strictly netbook based at this point. If they improve functionality with everyday word/excel type apps then it has the potential to be a huge hit, however if they gear it too much towards net browsing then it won't hit enough people to make much of a dent on Microsofts home turf.
