I've always believed that cloning could work if there were restrictions. We shouldn't go creating a whole population just for spare parts. Let's say they keep it going. Do more and more research on it. No, it's not going to lead to an army of people that all look alike. People just don't UNDERSTAND cloning, so they fear it. Think of this - let's say the technology has been perfected. One day, your kidneys start to fail. Both of them. Which is better - search for someone who is "close enough" genetically and hope the kidney isn't rejected, or have some guys in a lab grab a sample of your DNA and just MAKE YOU A NEW KIDNEY?
