| O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00  | Random thoughts passing through my brain got me thinking.. I recalled the atmosphere when I first joined and how being a bright eyed "newbie" I stood in awe of certain established members, and looked to either avoid or impress them.. Bullnuggets, CBH, the ever irritable Upuauat,the hyberactive JayMohrBuddy... names I'm sure mean nothing to a vast majority of the current members, as they have long since passed on... But those memories got me thinking.. sheesh... nowaday's I must seem pretty Hoary (ancient, old, etc) in board terms myself... this isn't so much a stroll down board memory lane as it is a question to various members... who in your eyes has taken the place, the social "location" of members to tread lightly around or attempt to impress... Back in my early days it was because one foul word from them could have the entire board on your back, and one kind word could set you for life... that's less likely these days, but I'm sure there are some members still that people don't want to agitate or that attract sycophant's.. and I'm curious who everyone thinks they are... IE: What member's do you either tread lightly around because either A: You're worried they'll take a comment wrong and start flaming you or B: their good opinion is important to you. A little extrapolation on the subject would be interesting too... My main reason for asking is that it occurs to me that A: there MIGHT be people uncomfortable posting around me, and B: People whom I find harmless could actually inspire awe in newer members.. and I'm curious to find out.. Of course.. I did just write alot so nobody will probably bother reading and reply....... | O&A Board Regular Registered: Oct. 00 | i remeber those days...walking on eggshells to avoid the ire of the vets, and that semi-accepted feeling you got when one of them said you made a good point, or even acknowledged you with something that didnt express hatred.saddly, those days are gone.for me, i dont tread lightly anymore, because a)they all know me and b)i am no longer scared of being yelled at or banned.but even for the new members, there arent many people who they should fear.ovbiously gonzo is one of the few, and if someone gets in a fight with amy, i'm pretty sure she's got enough people to back her up(half the guys on the board are her bitches, after all).but after that, there's noone really active who has enough influence.saddly, the last 3 people who i felt that way about left back in january, on the same day.one was forced, the other two chose to leave, and the board lost 3 pillars that kept our society up | ||||

| O&A Board Regular Registered: Aug. 01 | I missed danked. So what I think we are saying is that the board is either in an equilibrium right now, filled with easy going people. Or we need more strong willed people who stir the pot so to speak. Which do you think it is? Personally I think it is better with a little controversy. Much as I think FTL is a fucking bully, I think his high tech terrorism is funny. His hijacked thread was one of the funniest things I saw on the board in a while.
