Nice try Devils, but the 93 Penguins streak will live on.

Id be a bit concerned, the Penguins were without Kovalev and played with their #3 Goaltender.

I would hope that Pittsburgh stays at #6, and that the Devils get #7 Toronto or #8 Carolina/Boston in the First Round, because Pittsburgh is beatable, but will be very dangerous in a First Round Situation.

Current #1 seed in the East- Ottawa Senators.

So...a week ago we were supposed to be concerned because we might break the streak because when the Penguins did it in 93 they didnt go anywhere in the playoffs and now we've got to be concerned about a possible matchup with the Penguins in the first round? It sucks having to put your rival down when your team's sucking ass =)

oh man, first of all Opie I dont remember ever even mentioning the pittiful Rangers in this thread.

Second of all, your better off having the streak stopped now so you can concentrate on whats really important, playoff positioning.

Third of all, I was just making a comment how if your a Devil fan, you should be a bit worried that you lost to them without one of their best players, and their #3 Goaltender. That doesnt mean that your not going to beat them in the Playoffs, but they will be alot tougher than Toronto, Carolina, or Boston.

Your concern for the Devils is noted. Being a Ranger fan, forgive us if we dont think it's coming from the purest of motives. The Devils are a better team than the Pens and you have to believe in the 7 game series that the better team will win. As a Devils fan am I concerned? Always. The Devils have a habit of playing below their abilities in these playoff series.

There is also the theory that teams build momentum in the playoffs, so it might actually benefit the Devils to play the Pens earlier since they are a dangerous team.

damn Islanders got a point in Phoenix tonight. Shit I only have 2 points to work with right now.

Rangers are up 12 Points. But seriously how bad must the Islanders be, to be 12 Points behind the Rangers.

Ill take a split in these games. But its going to come down to the wire for this 10 point lead.

Hey Menino, I am right here. I was away since Thursday. I was at a Ice Hockey Tournament in Lake Placid and when I got home yesterday, I think the server was down. Anyway here is what I think of the situation. The Devils will probably win one of the next three or four, and by playoff time wake up and be ready to win 16 in a row.

Hey Menino, I am right here! I was at the game yesterday afternoon with a group of 80. I have not been online all weekend, and work sucked today!

I am glad it is over (the streak), although I would have been happier if they had won. The game was f***ing great! I thought the Devs played a good game, they completely shut down Super Mario and Jagr. The Morozov goal sucked big time!

Here is the report:

New Jersey 2, Penguins 4

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) – Martin Straka scored twice and Alexsey Morozov added the go-ahead goal as the Pittsburgh Penguins snapped New Jersey's franchise-record 13-game winning streak with a 4-2 victory Sunday.
The 13-game run tied the fourth-longest in NHL history and was four games shy of the NHL record set by the Penguins in 1993.
Robert Lang added an empty-net goal with four seconds to play, and goaltender Johan Hedberg stopped 25 shots as the Devils lost for the first time since a 3-2 defeat against Carolina on Feb. 23.

Jason Arnott and Brian Rafalski scored for the Devils, who had three good scoring chances in the final three minutes only to see Hedberg deny Petr Sykora, Rafalski and Scott Niedermayer.
Straka tied the game at 4:38 of the second when his wraparound shot hit off Niedermayer's skate and went into the net.

Morozov, who was only playing on a line with Lang and Straka because Alexei Kovalev is serving a three-game suspension, had a Lang pass from behind the net hit off Niedermayer and drop in front of the net. Morozov, who was alone, fired the puck high into the net over Martin Brodeur.

The Penguins had seven minutes' worth of power plays in the opening 10 minutes of the third period. The big chunk came when defenseman Sean O'Donnell was called for a five-minute major for elbowing Morozov.

Pittsburgh, though, got only two shots on the major with the best chance being a shot in close by defenseman Andrew Ference.

The Devils, who had shut out the Rangers and Vancouver in their last two games, fell behind early in this one when Straka scored on a 2-on-1 break with Lang 3:49 after the opening faceoff.

The Penguins held the lead until Jaromir Jagr lost the puck in the left faceoff circle to Sykora. The right wing fed Arnott, who snapped a shot past Hedberg after defenseman Hans Jonsson blocked his first shot.

Rafalski put the Devils ahead 2-1 with a power-play goal at 11:09 with a shot from the right circle with less than 10 seconds left on a penalty to Wayne Primeau.

Geez. I hope you got a Group Discount since you took about half the Devils fan base with you to the game.

Banger it is not like all the seats at Ranger games are filled everynight. Are they sold yes to about 93% Corporations. But about the seats that are filled are less then at Devil Games. So shutup.

oh please Bob.
You trying to defend your team's fan base against the Rangers fan base, would be like me saying that the Rangers are a better hockey team than the Devils.

You can talk all the business comp's you want. Fact is even with the Devils being one of the best teams in Hockey and defending Stanley Cup Champions, and the Rangers being a joke. The Rangers have a much stronger fan base and sell out every game, where as the Devils are lucky if they sell out playoff games. And sure alot of seats at the Garden are taken by the Comps, but that means that alot of real Ranger fans are shut out, and if their were no comps, those seats would still be sold to Ranger fans. And lets do it in reverse, if the Rangers were as good as the Devils, and the Devils were as bad as the Rangers.
The Garden would be filled like it already is with heavy demand, the Meadowlands would look like the way it is when the Nets are playing. about 1/4th full.

And throw in the fact that Ranger tickets are worth about twice as much as Devil tickets too.

I am not going to get into a pissing contest here with you. The CAA was sold out for the game on Sunday. I run a group trip annually to the Meadowlands. I hope they move to Newark! I think you might see more in attendance in Newark.

You make good points about the Rangers, but, let's remember they were the ONLY team here for many years. Of course their fan base is bigger, always will be.

The Devils have not built a strong fan base in their almost 20 years in Jersey, but, it is real difficult to convert fans. I have been a die hard Devils fan since 1988. I attend as many games as my wallet allows me to. I can not afford season tickets, but, if I could, I would have them!

There are many issues why the Devils do not sell out, but, it is not worth arguing about it.

I hear ya Red Dog
but idiot Bob here is trying to make it off as The Devils would have more fans in the seats if the Garden didnt have all those comp seats. And believe me Bob, its not 93% comps. Maybe 30-40%.

ok --- people 1st Devils nice streak -- now get ready for the playoffs
#2 Pitt will give ANY team proplems in the playoffs (but I think NJD would win, just don't say in 4)
#3 NYR even is these worst of times still out draws NJD on almost a nightly base.+ there is a 5 year wait list for season tixs. THis is not NJD - players fault but good old LOU --- he has never pushed the NJD to be a big part of the area -- just thinks that they should only do hockey, no tv, no other stuff(maybe he is right 2 cups in 6 years) buut that is not a way to build your fan base. They need to do more for the kids!!! and get more games on TV -- those who are old NYR fans can remember back to the days of NY on ch. #9 -- but NJD never went that way - the only way this area could see them for free was the few games they played at MSG. -- now with ESPN carry'n more games their fan base is growing -- but it is young (kids in fact) After they move to Newark(if they keep Tix prices lower than MSG) they will draw more and more. The Yanks/Nets will not let Lou keep the ship down much longer. (as this tidbit I have for ya. -- IF you have Yank tix or Nets Tix you will get a shot at Stanley Cup playoff Tix before the normal just palin hockey fan will. -- NJD tix holders 1st shot/-- nets/Yanks -- next in line -- then anyother fans --- good move by Yank/nets)

Only some road games, and no Home games were on Channel 9, back before everybody had cable those were the only games to see.
