No THAT is a modern classic. One of the definite Comic book boundary breakers.. it clearly shows how a graphic medium can be used to tell powerful stories.

Fbd.. I may have allready said this.. but in case not try to pick up Brook's Knight of the Word series.. "Running with the Demon", "Knight of the Word" and "Angel Fire East".. Fantasy set in modern time.. VERY good..

I don't know since I haven't read Dark House yet but it sure wouldn't hurt. The Tailism is a great book.

I just finished "The Redemption of Althalus" by David & Leigh Eddings.
Very good fantasy story. Unlike so many others, this story is DONE in one book, not stretched out over five or six books.

Robbins is great. I am always up for one of his novels. I love his language and word play. Right now I'm switching between "The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Klay" by Micael Cherbon (I think) who wrote "Wonder Boys" Also attempting "A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again" which is a collection of essays by David Foster Wallace.
The "Kavalier and Klay" book is cool, its about the birth of comic books after WWII, these two Jewish cousins have a character called "The Escapist" who is based on Kavalier's experiences in Prague during the German occupation.
The other book, by David Foster Wallace is nuts. The guy is clearly a genius, and you really need a dictionary to get through his stuff. He apparently committed the OED to memory. This book is easier than "Infinite Jest" which is his most famous work. I tried to read Jest and couldn't get through it. The book had over 100 pages of footnotes. Anyone read Wallace and have any hints on how to digest it?

Dent.. yes, Althalaus is a great book, if you haven't read them you should read edding's other series (the ones I'm re-reading now lol) Though I assume if you read Althalaus you read the others allready.

On a slightly related subject.. I know Fbd and Slack probably caught it, but did anyone else catch the full preview of Fellowship this week? Is it just me, or does it really look like we'll finally have a film version that lives up to Tolkeins' classic?

Currently, I am reading a Military reference book.
The book is about the M1 Abrams MBT, and it is published by Squadron Signal Publications. Great book.

There are 3 types of leaders and heroes.
Some are born leaders, some are built from the ground up by experience, and some are the right people at the right time.

I saw the preview during Angel Magus and holy shit it looks fan-fucking-tastic. I'm not the biggest fan of the LotR series but the movie looks incredible.

The only big issue I had to date was that liv tyler's character, Arwen, does NOT have a large role in the books, and that she was shpowing up WAAAY to much in the teasers.. but after that preview I beleive all they did is expand her character to replace a few other minor characters (lotr actually has quite a few specific characters beyond the main ones, many of which they could have easily condensed into Liv's role) and I'm not feeling quite as insulted by it after seeing the preview.
It's a lot like Tom Cruise playing Lestat.. untill you actually SAW it you didn't think it would work, but then but then you see it and are like "Damn, that IS Lestat"

I realized that too Magus since she was highly publicized and tehre was no female character that had a role like her in the entire series but I think her character is a sum of original characters and new ideas since a major female character might help the BO Sales. Tyler being really hot helps too.

na na na Ikea.. you forget Aeowyn, Theoden's niece (sister-daughter)
She IS a major female character, in fact, both her and Galadriel are, though galadriel appears briefly she has a strong impact on the developing story, and c'mon.. Aeowyn kills the Witch king for crying out loud!! That's the one thing that had me worried is that Liv being "warlike" would take away from Aeowyn's big moment (and don't worry those of you who haven't read it.. Aeowyn's "moment" won't be until the third movie.. by then you'll have forgotten i wrote this lol) but nevertheless, asides from that MINOR point which I am quickly coming to grips with and accepting, I think it will be VERY good..
C'mon.. Magneto makes a PERFECT Gandalf... and an ex-Hammer dracula as Saruman? What could be better?

like you said in chat that night, she probalby replaces gil gal...glorifriend(too lazy to check the spelling.you know who i mean) at the fords, but GLORIFREIND WAS A FUCKING ELF LORD!they got rid of an ELF LORD for some minor love interest character.if they really need a major chick part, wait till 2 and 3 and expand eowen's, or put the lady from lorien(i'm blanking on her name, and i'm kinda sore, so once again i'm not getting the book)in flashbacks to give her more time.but no...take out glorifreind

i may be a little catholic boy, but i'm still HLJC 4 LIFE!

FBD..
Lorien is Galadriel, she's in the first one,
Glorfindel IS an elf lord (it's why he was able to hold back the Nazgul) BUT he only appears at the ford and the dinner in Rivendel..Arwen is actually a recurring character, she shows up there, at a point about halfway, and at the end (she IS Aragorn's love interest after all)
Remember, Arwen is ALSO Elrond's daughter.. so she COULD qualify as the equivalent to an Elf lord..
They may also have her replace Elrond's twin sons, they show up at various points too, usually leading hunting parties or war columns..
ehh.. enough speculation here.. if we want to continue we might want to start a new thread, let's not TOTALLY derail Gonzo's thread lol.
