And the schools going to shit, drugs, crime, innercity hell, are all "trickle down" effects of the atrocious economy that Carter left behind. With a 10% unemployment and 15% inflation, all the jobs left the cities, and it took years for them to recover. A $3 trillion economy doesn't turn on a dime. It took the country a while to recover from the mess that Carter left, and it took a while for the Reagan tax cuts to really kickstart the the economy of the late 80s and 90s. The bellweather companies that made the technological boom in the 90s were all started during the Reagan years of massive tax cuts to small businesses. Not defending him in any way for the foreign policy disasters, but trickle down economics is 100% accurate. When the economy is good, everyone benefits. That's the basic tenet behind it, and the stock market boom of a few years ago shows that trickle down works (which is just Reagan's flashy term for what Adam Smith wrote about two hundred years earlier.)
