Was anyone listening when Jay Morh called in during an inaugural `what's in my pants' segment to a new affiliate? This girl was all ready to rub, when he calls up and proceeds to empty their dump delay and self promote his own ass. Now when he comes back for his show with Lynch, he will no doubt spread his hollywood schmooze and show destroying ego all over our beloved radio show. Not that it matters, since the show has morphed so greatly since syndication. I miss 1999, when a more laid back and less censored Opie and Anthony were thoroughly entertaining and original, instead of pandering to a canniballistic and self destructive broadcast style that can only devour itself. I've listened since bits like Charleton Heston traffic and Yoshi the Chinese food delivery guy were staple bits on the show. I went to the Bronco Bash they had in New Jersey when the Jets were in the AFC Championship (how long ago was that?). I never thought there'd be anything but Howard on FM talk radio until the Opie and Anthony show came along.
As American culture unfortunately sinks deeper than a Katie Couric rectal probe, I only hope that O+A are smart enough to jump ship before it's too late for all of us.

Jay Mohr probably is the best guest on the O&A show. yes, he does his plugs but so what. He also plugs for O&A. How many mentions did he give them when he filled in for regis. he is a hige friend to the show and he hysterical every time he is on. Personally, when Jay is on fire, there is no one better.

i started listening may/june 99 and yea i miss pre-syndication a little, but im not nearly as disappointed as i thought id be when they finally got syndicated. granted O&A do have to play ball more now, but that comes with the territory, im surprised at how true theyre keeping show admist the added pressure from management, sales, etc. because theyre in more cities and have to appeal to alot more people. as far as jay goes, he and bruer are the quintessential O&A guests, who gives a fuck if he shamelessly self-promotes himself, he deserves it, hes provided many laughs when he's been on air with the boys. im sick of mario cantone, i wish he'd stop coming on the show, i dont understand why they like him so much....

yes jay is a plug whore and sometimes takes over the show and it is usually turns into some of the funniest radio. he is one of the only guest that plugs O&A when he is doing his gig. the show has changed but it could also be from the new FCC standards on what is allowed to be aired and what they have to dump out of when the figure out what is going on with that i think the show will be just the way it was prior to syndication

I actually don't think Jay is the greatest guest or even friend of the show. Funny at times, but he becomes rapidly annoying, at least that's my personal taste. When I tune in I want to hear O & A, not Jay continuously banter and tell long stories.

Hmmmmmmmmm, all these opinions, yet none really matter. I mean the opinions of O&A and Rick really set the standard for the show. I think Jay Mohr is funny as hell, but what does my opinion count for? NOT A GOD DAMNED THING!!!

It's not like O&A don't have control over their show, Jay Mohr doesn't force his way onto the show. Seems to me that he has an open invite to join the show. As for him calling in, the FUCKING president could call in, and he's not getting on the air unless Opie picks up the line.

This will end my rant on listeners' opinions of guests... STINKY RULES :)

I've always thought Jay was annoying also.. he seemed to take over the show at times with endless plugs and stories. BUT.. when i saw him on Regis w/ Kelly he was actually good. So i dont mind him as much on the show now. ( i never really knew who he was prior to that)

Now, when is DICE coming back, what's up with that?? He has not called in once since they were syndicated. Anyone??

i think that jay is extremly annoying, and obnoxious to fans of the show (i can only speak from experience, of course. norton is a far better guest when he's on the show. jay's career should be half as big as his ego!!

Can Jay be too much? Of course...obnoxious to the fans? I didn't see that...what I did see was a millionaire actor coming out to his friend's bar shows and mingling in the audience as if he just came in off the street...hell, even Opie doesn't show up at Brother Joe's bar gigs!...and I'll be the first to admit I was surprised he was as nice as he was...I can certainly see why some people wish for less of him on-air, but to me, Jay is always a good thing...

It's not funny, my ass is on fire....

Jay isn't the best regular guest, he isn't the funniest regular guest, he doesn't have the funniest act, he isn't the smartest regular guest, but he is the most famous regular guest and he definitely gives props to his friends and respects them and you have to give him points for that. He's still somewhat humbled and gives credit to people who have made him bigger than he was/would have been without them.

I thought it was pretty funny last week to hear Jay use the term "yambag" when he was on with Kevin and Bean on KROQ in LA. I'm sure not too many others enjoyed it as much as I did, but I laughed mine off.

Jay's one of those guest that isn't as good by himself in studio, as he is when there are other comics hanging out. He can still give the best radio when he is on fire. Just look at what happened when Bruer (i always forget how spell his name) Mohr and anthony all ganged up on dice. That was the best radio ever. Too bad they don't play that bit anymore. Best hour of impressions on the show . . . ever. They made Dice look like a complete tool.

As a listener, I could care less about the plugs, I don't care how many times they plug a gig, it's a matter of personality.

First off, Jay is one of my favorite guests and has helped the show in numerous ways. While he is a plug whore, he's generous with his plugs for hte show when he's got a gig. And I agree, when he's on he gives the best radio. The ant, mohr dice stuff is classic.
But to address the other point about pre vs. post syndication. I've listened in Boston, in NY and in syndication, sure they've changed but with the new markets and the new FCC rules it's to be expected. But they've always found a way to make those changes and still stay funny and fresh and I'm sure after some adjustment it'll be just as good as always.

I'm sure if you ask his manager, Jay doesn't plug enough. He's really not that bad...the plug whore thing is just one of those monikers that sticks with ya on the O&A show...

I happen to think Jay is hilarious when he's "on" but he definately tries too hard and he's got one of those personalities where he can't stand not to be the center of attention. That's why he's a good comedian/actor.

I like that O&A have lots of funny guests. I know this goes against common opinion, but I like to hear different voices. Obviously, I think O&A are hilarious on their own, but there's nothing wrong with other people stealing the show (as long as they aren't one-trick ponies like some guests.) If I wanted to hear only one voice all the time, I'd listen to Tom Leykis.

Bottom line, I think Jay is a great guest and he should be on whenever he wants and he's definately earned an open invite with all his national plugs. And, that's not me kissing his ass because he's been nothing but a complete prick to me for no reason the few times I've come in contact with him. Not that I blame him, because I'm inconsequential.

Oh, and I'm a little bored with everyone blaming syndication for the more censored show. It has nothing to do with that. It's the Republican controlled FCC. Howard, Don and Mike, and Jim Rome have all been complaining recently...

Oh, and cunt-twat, you forgot this: )

Dan,
I wouldn't necessarily blame a "republican" controlled FCC. Some of the highest profile people fighting for censorship are democrats. I don't want to turn this into a political thread, but Dems are the politically correct ones. They are ruining our country with it.

both Dems and Republicans are scumbags when it comes to censorship in entertainment. true, tipper may have brought it to our attention with that Parent-Music Resource bullshit, but now that W is in the white house, Lynn Cheaney has picked up the torch. so yea Dems seem more vocal about it, but remember that Republicans also appeal to the Religious Right, so the entertainment industry really will never have any true allies in DC.....

The democrats, with a few glaring excpetions, have not tried to regulate entertainment, they have often encouraged entertainment to regulate itself. It is the republicans who continually try to push legisation and regulation through the GOP controlled congress. Just because a few democrats have stood out to make a big fuss, dont' think the republicans don't have a huge role in the regulations
