since basically every one has been thaked id like to start this tread for all those who set aside everything and vlountered to help out in hospitals and clnics and blood services. and as a new yorker who witnessed this tragic event firsthand id like to say that we couldnt have done all that we have if we hadnt come together and helped each other out. thank you to everyone.

I agree with you GAS...this country really show'ed what we're made of after this tragedy...for example I tried to go give blood today and they said they recieved 3 times the people they were expecting and that I should come back tomorrow or even Friday...I was impressed with how this nation pulled it together...

how could you not want to do something. to just sit there and watch this mess and not want to do something, anything. I guess it's just in my blood. My gut told me to get out of my office and go help. So with the help of my g/f We went to the store and got some supplies the blood banks want and brought them to a local radio station. the stuff people were dropping off was amising. As we pulled out for the day a huge flatbed with cases and cases of 1 ltr waters was pulling in to drop off it turns out it was from a local trucking company. they got the water and wanted to get it to the guys and ladys in the city.

Who would of thought New Yorkers were ever like this!

I didn't know where else to post this but I thought this was the best fit place. Sorry that it's long but I had to get this all out.
Thank you to the good samaritan who is the reason why my sister is alive today. On Tuesday morning at around 10:30 my school was called into our auditorium and given the terrible news of the tragedy that befell America. On Tuesday morning I started crying and I have yet to stop. Now, however, the tears that I cry are those of joy. Though I will be attending at least two funerals (possibly 5) I am so thankful that none of those will be for members of my family. It was bad enough going to bed on Tuesday night without knowing if my mother and sister were still alive but it wasn't quite as bad as waking up the next morning. I woke up that morning with my mom's arms around me, and I haven't stopped thanking God that she's ok, but I also awoke to hear that nobody knew the whereabouts of my sister. At that moment I wanted to die. I didn't think I could go on without my best friend. I was literally sick with sadness and I was feeling every other terrible emotion possible. It wasn't until last night that my state of shock and depression lifted. For the past few days I have been waiting by the phone for that one call to give me the news that I needed to hear. I was petrified for that call because something in the back of my head kept telling me that my sister wasn't ok. When I got the phone call last night from my sister's boyfriend telling me that she was fine, I felt such a sense of relief and happiness. And while I cried out of joy that my sister was fine the story I heard made me cry that much more. Before the first building collapsed, my sister stood by it looking up at the fire and when the building finally fell she was engulfed in the wall of smoke that swept over her. She was unable to see and breathe and she stood there motionless. Just as she started to panic, the man who was standing next to her when the building collapsed grabbed her hand and helped her get to safety. To this anonymous man, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You made it possible for my best friend to come home to me and for that I will be forever grateful. My sister's birthday is tomorrow and I thought I wouldn't see her to celebrate it, but by the grace of God and the help of this man I'll be able to. This man could have easily gotten himself to safety and ignored everyone else around him but he didn't. He helped my sister and in my eyes, this man is truly a hero. No one will probably ever know what he did and he will never be recognized for this but to my family and friends this man is a true hero. So many other men and women, I'm sure, have done the same type of good deeds as this man and they, along with policemen, firefighters, and other rescue workers are all heroes. They are the true soldiers of this war and they will not soon be forgotten. So to anyone who has ever risked their life for that of another person and especially everyone that did so in the awful tragedy, I thank you. You will never fully realize the joy that you put back into people's lives but yet you still continue to help with your heroic actions. To everyone who is still waiting to hear from a loved one, don't give up hope! I was sure that my sister had left my life forever but it was simply that she had no way of contacting us. Be strong and keep hope alive. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone who was either involved or knows someone involved in this tragedy. Those of you who have received bad news and those of you that are still waiting for news, I know how you feel and I wish you my deepest, most heartfelt condolences. May the grace of God be with you all during this difficult time.

I am proud to be an American citizen, I've got to admit during the last few days, especially on Tuesday, I almost cried....just thinking about all those innocent lives lost. We've got to seek revenge on those f-ing bitches, this is war!---My prayers go out to the victims of this tragedy.

Also, anyone with contacts: they need GOGGLES & GOOD RESPIRATORS!!!! You will be heroes if you can help!!!

& keep cheering the guys riding in & out, but PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THE AREA BELOW 30TH STREET!!! YOU JUST GET IN THE WAY & COULD GET HURT!!! ALSO, ANY UNAUTHORIZED PEOPLE (ie non-Professionals) WILL BE ARRESTED (& orders to shoot any uncooperative people-no joke)!!!

It's stories like that we all need to hear right now. Maybe the local stations could focus on things like this instead of showing angle 1,000 of the plane. Don't know you at all TS, but I'm really happy for you.

I did a 12 hour shift in the ER at the hospital I work at in Brooklyn on Tuesday and it was one of the most emotional days of my life. We are far away enough from the site that EMS didn't bring us anyone, but lots of people walked home first and then came in for smoke inhalation and other minor injuries. Talking to the survivors as they came in was a gut wrenching experience. I knew we were only dealing with a tiny fraction of what was going on but I fell humbled to have been a part of it. I wish there was more I could have done. One thing that came out of this for me is that I want to take the Red Cross diaster worker's training as soon as I can, and it reafirmed my commitment to becoming an ER nurse. The real heros are the people like the one TS describes, I heard alot of similar stories about strangers helping each other out. When all is said and done, New Yorkers really do look out for each other and I'm proud to have been a small part of it.

TS, i am relieved to hear about your sister's return... the nameless volunteers in this tragedy are just as much of heroes as those at ground zero... & Mr.Brownstone, you sir, are a Saint... I'm sure the time you spent dealing with & speaking to victims (no matter the severity of their injuries) was a great relief of stress for all involved...

I've got several sets of new goggles that are used on aircraft carrier decks, I'm sure they would work great. Where can I send them?

I heard they also need knee pads {ACK ACK!} and work boots (they're shredding those quickly from all the crap they're walking through).

They also still need goggles, and they definitely need industrial-type respirators and refill cartridges for them.

They did say the best thing to do would be to donate money because then they can buy what they need.

Thank you to all the brave volunteers who brought us all together as a country,
and thank you to those of you brave soldiers who will fight and have fought for our country.

Voodude, thanks for the offer, but they need about 3000-5000 pairs of respirators. I was hoping that someone had a contact with some company who could supply these, as well as refill cartridges.

I just couldn't keep these guys supplied, no matter who I spoke with. We cleaned out the entire Tri-State area.

Also, Spork, they are ruining alot of boots (including me). Someone donated several thousand pairs of Timberland boots. But they are short of heavy-duty fireboots. (Again, if you have connections to get thousands, use them).

Otherwise, you should donate money, so that needed items can be bought.
