From "TVInsite.com": King World Puts Kibosh on Stern Show Joe Schlosser & John Eggerton Broadcasting & Cable 11/14/2001 12:37:00 PM Shock Jock Howard Sternâ€™s weekend, late-night syndicated show from King World Productions (inherited from CBSâ€™ Eyemark) will end its run Saturday. Although the show -- based on his radio show for co-owned Infinity Broadcasting Corp. -- was cleared on a number of CBS owned-and-operated stations, it had never been a ratings powerhouse. King World is reportedly looking to develop a new, late-night weekend series to replace it. E! Entertainment Television continues to run two half-hour episodes of its own late-night video version of Sternâ€™s drive-time radio show from 11 p.m. to midnight. The Howard Stern Radio Show launched on CBS O&Os and a handful of other stations in August 1998, with most stations carrying it Saturday nights at 11:30 to try to eat into the audience of NBC's Saturday Night Live franchise. A handful of stations dropped the show soon after, citing content concerns. But even those conceded that the show had brought new viewers to the time slot and improved on the ratings performance of the shows -- mostly syndicated reruns -- that had previously occupied the time period. Stern had trumpeted the CBS show the previous April, saying it would contain the same scatological humor as his radio show. When asked by reporters whether such a show could air on the "Tiffany" network (although technically it was not on the network, but syndicated by it), Stern replied: "Tiffany is a stripper's name." Stern also had a syndicated TV show, The Howard Stern Show, on WWOR-TV (distributed by All American Television) that ran from 1991 through 1993. By that time they're either completely defeated and fucked up, which makes them interesting again, or they've learned how to beat the game, and that makes them interesting too.....The bigger they are, the worse they smell.....No one can ever know for sure what a deserted area looks like.....Baseball is the only major sport that appears backwards in a mirror.....There is now a Starbucks(c) in my pants.....Carlin is God..... Psychopath Registered: Oct. 00	Too bad....putting it on so late didn't help the ratings. I really enjoyed the annimated skits they did and the Jokeman. I'm sure the RELIGIOUS NUTS/JESUS FREAKS had something to do with the show being tossed off other markets. But I always thought it was too much the same as the E show.

O&A Board Regular Registered: Jan. 01	It's about time the CBS suits realized that noone watches that show. I think his E! show is one of the better performing shows that E! has on its roster, so I don't think they'll drop it anytime soon. That doesn't say much for the rest of its programming though. It's sad when a show that cost nothing to make for a network get canceled on the same day that the same network picks up the terrible Ellen Degeneres Show. Psychopath Registered: Jun. 01	I'm trying to remember what Stern used to say about Rush Limbaugh's TV show because that would be pretty good stuff to bring up. If history follows suit, maybe Howie will end up going deaf too? "HOO HOO I invented radio personalities going deaf and having their TV shows cancelled!" (Probably a better analogy than the XFL stuff, because as Roger says that wasn't exactly showcasing the boys' talents). I know it's been said before, but it needs to be said again, if there's any sort of "multimedia" or "convergence" going on here with the Opie and Anthony show IT MUST BE ON HBO or SHOWTIME or some brave cable outlet that WILL NOT CENSOR what goes on during the show! THAT will get ratings. It would be an excellent move for HBO because those shows always cost very little to produce, but they can still get decent ratings and the like. And who doesn't want to hear live reads on HBO for Horny Goatweed? Thank you to all the brave volunteers who brought us all together as a country, and thank you to those of you brave soldiers who will fight and have fought for our country. We are a free people because of your efforts.
