Hell, it took Stern something like 3 or 4 years before he became #1 in Washington, once he got syndicated (something they kind of gloss over). I'm sure it took Don and Mike just as long. | Hanger-On Registered: Mar. 02 | Stern was number 1 when he left DC, but when he came back years later (syndicated from NY) it took about 3 or so years. Longer than it took him to get number 1 in either Philly or LA. A lot of that can be blamed on WJFK's weak signal. For the record, Stern didn't get fired for the Air Florida joke; he was already leaving. They used that as an excuse to let him go early...and then they brought in THE GREASEMAN!! The bit, for those who care, was the day after an airliner crashed after takeoff into the 14th Street Bridge (not Memorial). About 300 people were killed, including people whose cares were taken into the icy water. He called the airline on the air the next day and asked them how much a "roundtrip ticket to the 14th Street Bridge" would be. Shocking that that was never mentioned in his book or movie!! Can you imagine if that had been done after 9/11 by some wacky young DJ? Stern would have layed into him. (Kind of interesting Capt. Janks isn't around anymore...kind of disappeared after 9/11, what with all of his calls during tragedies and such). Anyway, like I said earliet, things are going to take time for O&A than other markets, but it will be there.
