This is what I'm hearing... don't take this a "gospel"... take it as rumor:

Some ratings tidbits in 12 + (The “Bragging Rights” list).

WLTW number one with a 6.3 maintaining its solid place in New York. Hot 97 is next, up .4 to a 6.1. WCBS-FM had a terrific book coming in at number three with a 4.5. WSKQ is next with a 4.3 (up .2—probably what Big City is looking at as they consider flipping Y 107 to Spanish). WBLS down a little but sill very solid at a 4.3 (the fall numbers weren’t a fluke), Z 100 is number 6, then WINS (the number one AM station in New York) followed by WABC (which dropped .4 to a 3.6. This is about what the station got last summer—before 9/11). WKTU is coming back (tied with WABC)… it’s up .6 and is number 8 in the market (congrats Frankie Blue—it must feel good after all the criticism over the last six months). WRKS had a BIG jump up to a 3.4 after it’s poor showing in the Fall. It’s #10 in the market.

WXRK is steady at #11, WQCD down slightly, WTJM (the now defunct Jammin 105 was up to a 2.8). WAXQ tied Jammin and was up also (good book—proving the adult audience that left FM from AM after 9/11 is coming back to the adult music stations). WQXR is even, WPLJ up to a 2.6 (# 16 in the market). WCBS-AM had a big drop down to a 2.6 (tied with ‘PLJ). WPAT number 18 (about even), WFAN down a little to a 2.4, WOR steady with its poor showing from the Fall at a 2.3. It didn’t gain much after 9/11 so it had less to lose. WCAA was number 21 in the market, followed by WLIB. WNEW continues, as a station in 12 + to do poorly coming in at a 1.3 (#22 in the market).

12 + Morning things:

WINS number one, WSKQ number 2, WXRK number 3 (Stern down AGAIN…), then Hot 97 (up .6—again this is what Clear Channel is looking at in shifting 105.1 to R&B), WLTW, WCBS-FM (Harry Harrison had a nice jump up to a 4.3—best he’s done in a long time), Z 100 number 6 tied with CBS-FM, WCBS-AM is next, then WABC at number 9 (Curtis and Kuby down slightly to a 3.5). WBLS next, then WRKS (two stations with syndicated morning shows that are about even with each other leaving an opening for both Hot 97 and the new Power 105-1). WFAN next (Imus is #12 with a 3.0), WPLJ tied with WFAN (Scott and Todd were up .3). WOR’s Ed Walsh about the same as the Fall at #14, WKTU next, WTJM, WQXR, WQCD. WAXQ was about the same as the Fall at a 2.1 (no impact from Leslie Gold one way or the other), WPAT, WCAA, WADO------(a bunch of others). WNEW way down at the bottom, again, at number 33 (0.4—truly embarrassing).

12 + Afternoon stuff:

WLTW on top, WQHT next, then WBLS. Z 100 follows, WCBS-FM nice bump up to a 4.2 (congrats Bob Shannon). WKTU, WABC (down to a 3.8. Could be 9/11 shifts, could be Hannity’s syndication). WSKQ, WQCD, WNEW (O&A down again to a 3.2. Last Spring, before syndication they were a 4.5). WAXQ (up), WTJM, WRKS, WOR (Grant about the same as he’s been for the last year), WFAN, WPLJ, WINS, WQXR, WXRK (2.3—no change in its PM Drive numbers even with the changes it’s made).

The Money Demo (25-54):

WLTW on top (as always proving this station is a steady as she goes winner… congrats again to everyone there), WSKQ (again… this is what is prompting Big City to flip Y 107), WBLS (again… what prompted Clear Channel to flip 105.1), WCBS-FM (just a great book for CBS-FM. Reducing the fifties and upping the seventies has helped the station’s ratings), Hot 97, WKTU (Up .8!), WRKS also up .8 (!), Q 104 up .7, WXRK decent at a 3.9 (where it’s generally been), WPLJ a nice jump up, WQCD (big dip down .6), WTJM (up), Z 100 (down .4), WINS down a full point (no more inflated 9/11 ratings), WPAT, WFAN (a .5 drop here), WABC (down .6—again post 9/11), WCAA, WCBS-AM. WNEW was at #20 with a 1.5.

Some other notes:

WCBS-FM had a terrific book. Shifting the music emphasis of the station is helping because in the 18-34 demo it was up to a 1.5 (not great but much better than the 1.0 type numbers it was getting). That implies its attracting some younger listeners.

WNEW always comes up here and we don’t have specific info on male demos. In straight 25-54 (men and women), mornings are a disaster. Middays (Don and Mike) are even at a 1.0. Afternoons, as mentioned, are down. Evenings in 25-54 are even from the Fall at a 2.3 (Ron and Fez aren’t growing above their Fall numbers).

WAXQ: Good book for the station but not such a good book for Leslie Gold. The station was up in all dayparts (especially middays and PM Drive: CONGRATS Maria Melito and Ken Dashow) except mornings where it had equal ratings to the Fall. That says to me that Gold is hurting the station by preventing it from growing as it is everywhere else.

WTJM: Was up everywhere. Did Clear Channel pull the plug too soon? Maybe. On the other hand, WBLS, WQHT, WRKS all did well. That is obviously what Steve Smith saw and changed the format based on. Time will tell if it works. But Frankie Blue was turning Jammin around.

WABC: Lost as a result of people returning to adult music stations (WCBS-FM, WAXQ, WKTU etc all up). Curtis and Kuby did relatively well considering that trend. Hannity got hurt however (he took a big dive in 25-54… could be syndication).

WOR: Going nowhere. Got to fix it. Start with mornings.

Ok… That’s what I’m hearing….

blah blah blah. The management appears to be committed to O&A so there is nothing to fear. Sure, a better book may help their cause, but air personalities have probably been let go with a better book. And, yes, I have no idea what I'm talking about.

What about Ron and Fez? If they move them again, they'll need to create brand new times for the gay/"straight" duo.

Philly ratings come out Monday. It won't really say anything about Don and Mike though, because the book won't be completely theres. I think they came on more than halfway through the book, so it'll be the next one that really shows how they are doing.

“The window burns to light the way back home. A light that warms no matter where they've gone. They're off to find the hero of the day. But what if they should fall by someone's wicked way. Still the window burns. Time so slowly turns. And someone there is sighing. Keepers of the flames. Do ya feel your name? Can't you hear your babies crying? Mama they try and break me. Still they try and break me. 'Scuze me while I tend to how I feel. These things return to me that still seem real. Now deservingly this easy chair. But the rocking stopped by wheels of despair. Don't want your aid. But the first I've make. For years can't hold or feel. No, I'm not all me. So please excuse me. While I tend to how I feel. But now the dreams and waking screams. That ever last the night. So build the wall, behind the crawl. And hide until it's light. So can you hear your babies cryin' now? Still the window burns. Time so slowly turns. And someone there is sighing. Keepers of the flames. Do ya feel your name? Can't you hear your babies crying?” - Metallica

Can some one please give me the pro O & A spin on this. O&A seem to blame there ratings drop on their shitty lead in. If this were the case, why are their ratings still slipping even as their lead in inches up. And yes their lead in is creaping up in the key male demo.
