I was not listening, but Howard just going with it makes sense. And, as an O&A listener, I would not even expect Stern to give the boys credit on his show. Even off the air, I would not expect him to apologize. However, knowing Stern and his "gag" orders and other shit, I would not be surprised if the girl was really an intern in another room on a cell phone, making the whole thing up. The "I think we'er on to something" line was the jab at O&A. Remember the (abridge) timeline: Wolfman Jack's generation begat Imus' generation, who begat Howard's generation, who begat O&A's generation. O&A, despite their ignorant racism and homophobia, have the best thing going on radio right now...They're just hanging out and doing their own thing. Stern is being paid for past successes, not future potential. He was funniest in the mid- to late-eighties and peaked in the early-nineties with his pay-per-view special on New Year's Eve (which I bought and enjoyed). But remember, Howard is not the God of radio. He isn't a king of any media, but he is certainly good in his demos during his time slot, as are O&A. It comes down to this: all jocks borrow and steal, but WOW belongs to O&A--that one they claimed when they INVENTED it. Howard, or any other show, using it puts the machine into effect...the machine is the motto of the show: "O&A ALWAYS WIN IN THE END" Even Stern fans admit O&A are inheritors to the throne. The only thing to realize is that they'll go out on top, they won't take the long fall, denying the magic is gone, divorcing for ratings or fake bits like running for governor. They will do this as long as they want to, and then, perhaps, Ron & Fez or some spinoff show (Psycho Mark & Rick?) will keep the fires going for a while. The one thing that won't happen: Neither one will end up at a bowling alley, broadcasting live, for "Midnight Bowling" Corn- the tracer-bullets of the digestive system | ||||

If radio had a hall of fame (does it?), Howard would qualify. I agree with the b-b-boys when they say that Howard has lost what made him unique; it's not that people have stolen his act, it's that the pizazz has gone out of his show, long before Jackie did.
