Gee, let's see, thread started at about 5pm (is it OK to round off?) and it's now 11pm (OK, so I rounded again). I'd say that's 6 hours without a bite. Good thing we brought plenty of beer for this fishing trip.

Howdy,

I guess I'm pretty much echoing the sentiments of most of the "Philly" (live in the Burbs, work in Jersey, etc.) listeners posting on the board right now - I guess in a way we're pretty much New York listeners who are real effin' happy about the reception we can get on the commute home now.

The virus will spread, it just needs a little time for the kids in PA to "get" the show.

Having official 94.1 YSP WOW stickers will help I would suppose, and we can all do our part through word of mouth. I try my damndest to hook people on the show and it's working (except for the TOOL I work with who refused to listen to the show because "Opie is a stupid sounding name.")

I am a little unsure of how the short term ratings will go. I would think that a lot of the people craving their Ozzie, AC/DC and Staind are going to heading over to WMMR and that might give them a quick pop (and reinforce their "WYSP isn't a rock, it's a talk station" bullshit) but if you look at the pattern for Howard Stern, (easy now, the formats are at least close enough for comparison) the Philadelphia and NY audiences tend to mirror each other, so WYSP's PD should have his "It's all about being number one" dream come through sooner rather than later.

The real interesting thing to see, I think, will be these other cities where you don't have more than a handful of people who have heard of the show before.

I definitely liked the fact that they were doing live reads for the Philadelphia/national market. This could be a great boon for them over Stern. I know that in the mornings when Stern goes to commercial, that's it, I'm punching out to go find some music (or listen to the Sportsguys for like 2 seconds)... but with O&A? Well, you wouldn't want to miss them talking about F'ing the S out of her A now, would you? Advertisers should appreciate that fewer people will turn the station during a block of commercials.

It's a great show, we all love it because it is, and on those strengths, O&A will always win in the end.

Im definatly not sayin this to be a dick, Brownstone, but isnt Harrisburg like a two and half hour drive from Philly? Not really near each other. I could be wrong.

I was ten or so when I moved, my memory of it is a bit hazy. At any rate, Philly was the closest big city and I went there at least a few times a year.

There is a theory which states that if anyone discovers exactly what the universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another which staes this has already happened. ---Douglas Adams

Don't know if I count - I live in the Lehigh Valley, about 1 hour north of Philly. I've been listening on WNEW for about a year, ever since I've been making the god-awful commute to Parsippany every day. I am very excited that the boys have come to YSP because now I can listen all the way home - I just have to switch stations around Exit 7 on 78.

BTW - I would love to be adopted. I'm going to go read some posts and edgeamacate myself :)

Spank you very much,

Welcome Philly! I want to welcome you on behalf of the "family". O&A might get suck every once in a while (like when Mendi, Patty, Retarted L&R, or Sandy Kane are on) you'll get to like them. Now that everybody from NY/NJ just read this, maybe in the next couple of months we'll have some new fans.

Hey, Charcoal Briquette, shut the fuck up before you find yourself sleeping with the fishes.

"We all need... a haven. A sanctuary. A place to hide. A place to escape. A place to dream and hope. A place... where the darkness won't be so frightening. But for some, the darkness is a relentless enemy. It cannot be eluded. And once the darkness senses your fear; once it senses your pain, it is never far behind. I can empathize with these people. I can understand their futility. I can forgive their hopelessness. I feel their pain. Quote the Raven, nevermore."
