This is from Friday's Boston Herald:

`Connection' and Opie and Anthony fans left in limbo
Boston Radio/by Dean Johnson
Friday, June 15, 2001

Two groups of local radio fans are stuck in a waiting game: public radio aficionados and rock talk groupies.

Public radio's WBUR-FM (90.9) is not expected to name a new permanent host for its daytime talk show ``The Connection'' anytime soon. The decision was expected to be made in late spring, but a station spokesperson said the job won't be filled until mid- to late July.

WBUR says because so many people are interested in the job the station has decided to take its time making a final choice. Apparently, the job is very much up for grabs. Station sources say it's possible the new host will be someone who hasn't auditioned yet.

National Public Radio correspondent Jacki Lyden will host through June 29. Then Canadian radio host and correspondent Dick Gordon will take a turn through July 6. After that, ``Nightline'' producer John Donvan will sit in through July 20.

Meanwhile, former ``Connection'' host Christopher Lydon remains in limbo. He's churning out hourlong Webcasts on a near weekly basis at www.christopherlydon.org. But word from his camp indicates he won't return to radio in the immediate future.

``We're busy on all fronts,'' said producer Mary McGrath, who indicated something should happen by the fall.

For rock talk groupies, Opie and Anthony, who were booted out of town after announcing Mayor Menino had died, might be returning to the Hub's airwaves.

The onetime Boston broadcasters' Big Apple-based afternoon show already is being syndicated in major markets such as Philadelphia. Although their longtime local outlet, WBCN-FM (104.1), is mum on the subject, multiple sources tell the Herald that Opie and Anthony will be returning to Boston radio sooner rather than later and that their show will be carried on WBCN.

Details are being hammered out about whether the show will be live and taped. But, talks have reached the delicate stage.

If Opie and Anthony don't end up doing afternoons at WBCN, it'll be a big surprise.

WBCN makes the most sense for O&A seeing as their bits have been played on the station for the past year. The only question would be what to do with Nik Carter seeing as his show gets the high ratings and he is on from 3-7. The only other infinity owned station that could put O&A on are WFNX and they are classic rock. Hopefully it happens soon because I am sick of listening to O&A through my computer.

First of all, WFNX is not owned by Infinity, your thinking of WZLX.
Second, Carter has been beaten in the ratings by r & b for almost two years now. Except Birdsey's on FNX now, so who knows what'll happen in this ratings period. Anyway, I hope this is true and not more fucking speculation. I'll only believe it when I finally hear them on the radio again.

Your right Boston Fan..I meant WZLX. Birdsey is now on WFNX. Also, when I said that Nik Carter gets the high ratings I meant for WBCN. R&B's ratings were definatly the highest in Boston, but in my opinion, Birdsey was the only one with any talent. Just out of curiousity, where in Boston do you live? I was thinking about putting together an OA.com party for people in this neck of the woods seeing as I've heard so many great things about the NY/NJ ones.

Anything is possiblr with O&A.
Keep in mind they did say that they will be returning to boston on the airwaves in 90 days. And currently, it's less days than that.
All I know is I can't wait to meet the Ol' Boston Guard.
