Ok, this issue has been raised in the past. And I feel the need to bring it up again. I discussed this with several mods last night, and from now on, if you are underage and drinking at either an Official gathering or are drinking at a Bar 9 gig or other unofficial one, you will pay for it on the board. You can and will receive strikes and/or bannings for it.

I know that Strawberry warned all the underaged members to not even bother trying to get drinks at Bar 9 when people first started coming out to see Joe play. And for a little while it was tolerable, but it's getting to the point where something needs to be done. I can't stop you from doing something stupid, but when there are underagers both drinking & then driving people home there is a problem. I'm not going to wait until something bad happens and everybody has to suffer to make this point clear. From now on, if you're under 21 and in the bar, don't drink, or be ready to not be allowed to post anymore. Don't test me, because I will make you a scapegoat.

You can blame me or curse me out for this, but I am speaking for quite a few members who are tired of seeing it and know that only trouble will arise from it.

Good idea, considering the number of posts I've seen today about under 21 people being sooooo drunk at Bar 9 last night....hey, at least you're allowed to get into bars, most of us had to wait (unless we had a fake ID, which really isn't worth it)

Behind every good man there is a woman, and that woman was Martha Washington man, and everyday George would come home, she would have a big fat bowl waiting for him, man when he come in the door, man she was a hip, hip, hip lady, man.

I myself do seem to recall the "Official underage drinker" with a bottle in hand.

To those of you who might be thinking "Oh sure.. why can't we have any fun" let me give you a few examples of what can happen if you're caught drinking and are underage:

1: You can loose your license for several years.. if you haven't GOTTEN one yet your eligibility to recieve a license can be kicked back a few years as well.
2: Because you purchased your beer, let's say, at bar 9.. if you're caught Bar 9 could loose it's liquor license.. meaning NO MORE BAR 9 gatherings PERIOD (and thus you roooin it for everyone)
3: People inviting us (the board as a whole) could conceivably be held partially responsible (IE Joe might get into a little bit of trouble, or if it's a board event Froy could) and thus they wouldn't invite us anymore.. once again.. ROOOOINing it for everybody.

Yet another case of someone doing something assinine and ruining it for the rest of us. Thank you to whoever you are.

Granted i drank last night, but I took the train and i stopped myself like an hour before i left the bar.

I totally understand the reasoning behind this though, and it is not going to make me not go to events just because i cant drink, i will be a good girl and wait my 1 year and 2 months till i can party with you guys legally

I could not have said that any better myself Froy. I really have to say that I am not only shocked by the minors who choose to do this but also in the attitude that is taken when they are denied for alcohol. Please don't get me wrong. I have been 17 and I know what it feels like to want to go out and drink or even just hang out with individuals older than myself. Believe me, I understand, but it is getting out of control.

You are no longer just jeopardizing yourselves, you are now jeopardizing others. Did you ever once stop and think that Bar 9 could have it’s liquor license revoked for serving you or that Joe could loose the bread and butter he makes there because of your stupidity? Did you ever, even if just for one moment, ever realize that the consequences of your actions might affect the rest of us?

the easiest thing to do if the event is at a bar do not invite underage people from the board to that event we've all been at that age and had to deal with it. there are enough things going on throughout the summer that are open to everybody no matter what age.there is way to much at stake to let the underage drinking continue and those of us of age have to take the responsiblity of policing our own and keeping the alcohol out of the hands of those not of age .

Froy, I am in total agreement with this policy. Guys please realize this is not to piss the under age people off, it is for everybody protection and for us to continue to have a good time at gatherings without a horrible situation happening.

I agree...If it continues to happen the only people its gonna hurt are board members and future parties...If you wanna hang then hang but when you have people drinking and driving thats a BIG problem...So not only do the underagers gotta stop but I hope none of the board members are driving drunk either.

Don't you dumb underagers know, drinking and driving is very dangerous- unless you're over 21, then its socially acceptable. Trust me, that extra couple years give you the ability to drive safely when you are truely snotted.

I'm just joking around, but in all seriousness: Froy, here is a simple solution - tell Bar 9- if they aren't doing their Job IDing people, then they should, or that's really their problem not yours or the boards. having jjjjust turned the big 2-1 I really can't get down on underagers trying to get served. Not everyone under 21 thats trying to get served is looking to get sloshed; Hey that was me a couple weeks ago. If Bar 9 is careless enough to serve someone without ID, they are just plain foolish. If they serve someone with a really good ID, it ain't their problem.

So kiddies if you wanna drink - get a good ID, then the only shmoe that gets locked up if you're caught is you.

Good call Froy. Even though I'm 20 1/2. It's wise not to jepordize Brother Joe, Bar 9, and the OA.com board's rep.

If you are underage and really want a drink I'd suggest you do it after the gig. Plan a designated driver of course! I fully support underage drinking, but in a bar it's a bit hard to do it responsibly.

...did that sound right?

I want to congratulate Froy and the Mods from stepping up to the plate and airing this issue out.
I know some of you are aware of the recent events in my life, which involve my family and a drunk driver. Finaly things are looking up and I should be back in the swing of thing soon.

But let me say this that if anybody is driving drunk (under age or not) , I would hope as board members and as friends we would offer to get that person a ride home or sit them down to sober them up.
To lose a friend for a night is better than losing a life.

Sorry to preach, back to you Rusty. :)

well, I think the drinking age is too high. I think it should be rolled back to 18. If you are old enough to join the Army, and die for your country, than you're old enough to have a beer. If you're old enough to vote for a president, you're old enough to have a beer. It really seems to be the bar's problem, BUT this is Froy's house, and Froy's rules. OBEY

I didn't know who was or was not drunk last night, or who was underaged, but i know i wasn't drunk, and i was dissapointed, but now i guess it wasn't such a bad thing. it sucks some people have to get out of control and then ruin it for all the rest of us kids trying to drink illegaly.......oh wait.

I shall obey. And good job by you Froy. I agrre with an above poster, and just not invite the underaged to the Bar gigs. It is the safest and smartest thing to do for all parties involved.

I can't tell people not to come to Bar 9.

And I'm not arguing the drinking age. In fact, I agree Painter, if you can vote & go to war, I think you should be able to drink. But that's not the issue.
