Just a quick note that Westwood One, the syndication wing at Infinity has gotten on board. Should mean good things to come. There's a good chance that syndication will go beyond the 22 markets that were originally mentioned.

Westwood One To Syndicate Opie & Anthony

R&R ONLINE told you last month that when Opie & Anthony re-upped as afternooners on Infinity's WNEW/New York, they also got a three-year deal to be syndicated on no less than 22 Infinity stations in top 50 markets. Now Infinity sister company Westwood One announces that the duo will roll out nationally. At the same time The Washington Post reports that Opie & Anthony will air live in afternoon drive on WJFK/Washington, which drops political talker G. Gordon Liddy so that the syndicated Don & Mike — who are based at 'JFK — can move from afternoons to middays. Meanwhile, 'NEW will reportedly drop local middayer Leslie Gold ("The Radio Chick") to make way for Don & Mike live; they currently air on tape-delay at night. ST's calls to WNEW and WJFK management were unreturned at press time.

For Link illiterate, here's the article:

(7/24/2001) The O&A Rollout Continues. Now With Full-Scale Backing, Westwood One To Syndicate The Opie And Anthony Show.
The Opie And Anthony Show, based at flagship station WNEW-FM New York, also currently airs on WYSP-FM Philadelphia, WCKG-FM Chicago, KYNG-FM Dallas, WAZU-FM Columbus, WXTM-FM Cleveland, KXOA-FM Sacramento and KYCY-AM San Francisco.

"Opie and Anthony have created an innovative and entertaining talk program that is a proven ratings winner," Westwood One's President/CEO Joel Hollander said. "We look forward to taking the success of The Opie And Anthony Show to radio stations across America."

Greg "Opie" Hughes and Anthony Cumia began their careers together on Long Island, N.Y., in 1994 and in 1995 moved to Boston. They began broadcasting The Opie And Anthony Show on WNEW-FM New York in 1998 and in only a short time have become the No. 1 afternoon drive program in virtually all male demographics, finishing first in males 18+ in the most recent six consecutive ratings periods.

THE VIRUS CONTINUES.......

Here's my question...when i'm at school (Penn State) I can only pick up O&A through SU..but there are alot of NY,NJ, and LIers up there (and now with philly, PAers too) that are O&A fans - what is the possibility with this WW1 deal of pushing for a smaller station to pick them up? I know i can get people behind it, but is it a waste of time, because they will cost too much $$?
